The word on the street is that alot of people have started hanging out in this forum so I am reposting my message here in SLASH;)

helloooooo..is anyone out there???
Hi everyone! I am back on RC following a short hiatus (since 2004 actually) and I am looking to get back in touch with the hard core reefers that once dwelled in this forum, including but not limited to George, Nanook, Mark and Dallas (if he has not long since been banned by one of the moderators)- as well as any other interesting characters that have since joined.
A devestating tank crash as well as life circumstances ended my hobby a few years ago but I can not stop thinking about it and have realized that since I am a true reef addict I will never be happy until I reef again.

Hope to hear from you all soon,
Gianna

p.s. I am looking to start with a 55-75 gallon tank so if anyone local has one to get rid of please shoot me a pic and a price in the form of a PM

Welcome to the SLASH forum Gianna. Glad to have you here.

It's true .... you might find Nook and a few other unsavory characters hanging out here. Their parole officers pay us to let them participate and to be frank, we can use the money. :D

LOL! Oh, it feels good to be back.
Thank you for the welcome, Cap'n:)

Where do I find the meeting schedule- I need to sign up for membership, etc..

Schedule?

You obviously have us mistaken for an organized, professionally run organization.:D

SLASH does things a little differently than what you might have been used to in the past.

We do have "official" meetings but we don't really have a schedule as such. When we are going to have one of those type of meetings we try to give folks at least a few weeks notice.

What we do have regularly ( but not on a schedule ) is pizza nights where many of us meet at an LFS and leave from there to get pizza ( and maybe, just maybe have a beer or two )and sometimes go to another reefers place to see their tank and hang out. Pizza nights happen on the average about every 2 to 3 weeks. Just watch this forum for the announcements of any of our functions.

If you'd like to join the club you can pay via Paypal or come to any club function.

If you look at the top of the club page you'll see that we're having a float trip in a little over a week and a BBQ at Nooks place next month. Feel free to attend either.

Welcome back!!! CapnDinosaur pretty much summed it up, we do things a lot differently here, informality is the rule, fun, friendship and reefing is what we are about. We won't make you raise your hand to speak and encourage laughter.

When you do get set up let us know and I am sure we can come up with some things to fill the tank with. :D

Sounds great- I will definitely try and make it to the next meeting, beer sounds fun, um- I mean meeting new people and learning from them sounds fun:)

Hey, welcome back  :)

It is rumored that ReefManDManDallas is engaged to be married and has either been told to hit the straight and narrow, or has electrocuted himself with his tank:p

Either way, lots of us still here and a few lurkers like Icepick. Griss is on the Nanook Style Tank with an empty 240g, Mark has an awesome 200g tank that I need to see one of these days and my tanks are still empty:D

Seriously, there are a lot of people in this forum most of the time, even if the summer has been slow. We try to get together, have fun and help each other out...glad to see you back and hope you can meet up with us soon.

BTW, there are a lot of new faces since you left and they are all good eggs....except for Stupid...watch out for him:eek2:

click capncapos red house icon

Someone really should change Capo's red house icon to a retirement home icon... It would make him feel more at ease....

Hey Mark!! I was wondering when you and Nanook were going to get online again- I remember a time when neither one of you guys (or George) ever fell into "offline" mode.
Everyone has these monster tanks these days- what kind of lighting is everyone using now to keep these 200+ gallon beasts going? I went to Nemo's and they had an LED setup and I felt like I was in one of those time machine movies:D

Hey Mark!! What do you know about the LED lighting? I am totally intrigued by this idea- I posted in SEASL to see if anyone here used it.

G.-

PFO Led lighting is nice, Joy from PFO was here for SLASH a few months ago, she did a demo of one of the Solaris units. Aquatic Treasures also has one of these units.

They just released a 400W version, and they are coming out with a model that does not have the computer later this year I think.

I saw the set up at Nemo's and it is really nice but I want to know more about the pros and cons- is it possible to make your own unit? It looked like they don't have the heat output that the rest of the lighting options have.

No heat issues as far as water temp, evaporation. It does have fans to cool internal components. You can mess with this thing and program it the way you like it, if you are one of those reef geeks. Moonlight settings, program simulated cloud cover. Pretty cool for one unit.

"DIY or make your own" They have put a lot of thought into their product to where it would be hard or even expensive to do yourself. They have lenses that their LEDs sit in which are a key to the success of the product. I will wait for the lower grade versions

I think it is really neat to see a company take a leap like this and produce a product of the future. It is one of those if you could afford it I would have it already buys.
