World Wide Corals - Orlando

People on the Orlando forum said this was a can't miss place if you are in the area and they were right.

They had 14 - 180g coral display tanks absolutely packed with corals, some really high end. They had really high end acans with 4-8 heads for $30 each. If I was heading home right away I would have stocked up, they offered to hold and ship when I gave them the go ahead but I have spent too much this week already.

Took some pics that I will upload, but they were from my iPhone so I am not sure if they will look good. They had literally thousands of frags.

that's really cool. I too look forward to some pics.

Side question possibly thread stealing but can you bring bagged corals or fish onto a plane? If you bought some stuff and had to fly home from somewhere can you take them on a plane as a carry on?

Yes I believe you can.

You still must fall within the guidelines for carry-on of 3 oz or less.

You can stow it in your checked back but always a risk.

There is current testing and i guess you can call it research about dry shipping coral. If you drain the water and seal it in a bag they are getting 6-10 hours without issues for most items.

I believe this was in the latest TFH magazine

Most Softies do well if wrapped or drapped in wet newspapers(I dont recommend), or paper or fabric towels.

SPS can do alright dry too. You may want to check with Anthony Calfo with the SPS shipping method, I think he experimented with that a bit when he had his Greenhouse.

The Reef Aquarium vol.1 by Sprung and Delbeek also details a useful "dry" shipping method.

If you were prepared to do it and weren't there on a weekend, the other option would be to overnight it to yourself. Of course, a lot of stores will do that for you if you ask too. I was at a really nice place around Seattle that offered to hold stuff for me since I was there on a Saturday morning, and ship it to me at a reasonable rate. They had 3-5" ORA frags there on the ORA plugs still for $30-40. It was in the back of a strip mall...tough as anything to find, but worth stopping in. It's a reminder of how a good staff makes a bigger difference than a nice location/facility in this hobby.
