We set up our Solana about a month ago. Shortly after putting in the sand and liverock, we noticed a small sand ring being formed. Out of the ring came 2 long tentacles. The ring slowly started getting longer. If my pictures post, you'll see that it's about an inch and a half long...these tentacles reach down to the sand and are creating this tunnel. I have never seen the body that goes along with these tentacles, but it can't be very big bc even when the tunnel wasn't there, we just saw 2 long tentacles coming out. It's a sturdy tunnel, I've seen our hermit and emerald crabs bumping into it and it stays put. What kind of worm would create this tunnel and is it safe in the tank?
Thanks :)
I'm going to try to post pictures, have never done it before.

YoungReefer06,

Do you know if there are other similar genera or are all these kind of worms placed in Phyllochaetopterus ?

TIA!

The chaetopterid worms contain many genus and species but to my knowledge Phyllochaetopterus sp. are the only ones commonly found in aquaria, and several different species of them at that.
