Worm ID

Hello! First I would like to thank everybody for all the help and knowledge gained. Is I would have known about Reef Central in the beginning I would not have bought the cannister filter or the compact flourescents and saved myself $$$ amount of money.
Looking at night I have found some sort of worm. My guess is a bristle worm. It's pinkish/ purple, flat and similar to a centipede. Seen a good 6" with no beginning or end. Creepy! I'm double thinking sticking my hand in there. Will this hurt my corals and if so how would you catch it?
BTW, I still haven't switched my stands. Have a pulled muscle in chest area.

I would suck it out with a turkey baster just because of the possibility of it getting even bigger than it already is. There's a pic on 3reef of a foot long bristleworm as big around as two pencils whose "owner" is afraid to get it out of his tank.

Sounds like a bristle worm from your description...

IMO, just about everyone has them. My 40G fuge easily has dozens of them crawling out of the sand and all over the chaeto. That doesn't even include what is in the display tank.

Clearly a bristle worm. They are benificial detrivores. Very helpful in keeping things clean. There are rare species that are detrimental to corals or other tank inhabitants.

Leave it alone. All of us with LR have them.
