Wormzilla

Wow guys, look what I found in my seahorse tank, wormzilla!!! Not only is it big-but in my quick move to prevent it from slipping back into the live rock I grabbed it with my bare hands and it left a purple ink stain on my fingers where I touched it and stained my kitchen counter top!?! Luckily I did not get stung by this behemoth, but that leads me to believe it is not a fire worm or a Bristol worm, the coloration on this guy also is more like an orangish yellow. Has anyone else seen this type of worm in their systems? In the meantime I am treating the tank with all inhabitants removed with some hydrox from Carol at ultimate seahorse as where there is one there is probably many more. Thanks guys, boy do I feel sorry for the seahorses, RIP 1st Reidi herd, poor little guys never had a chance…I have these in my reef tank also, I pulled one out of the "jelly roll" in my overflow box? What is it?

Mine was bright orange and approaching 3-feet long when fully stretched! :eek1:
Scared the holy-bajeesus outa me when it dropped full-spread to the floor while I was holding the liverock at waist height!
Not sure if yours is the same, but this one was identified as a polychaete worm, Oenone fulgida.
the appendages are for mobility (like legs on a centipede) not for stinging...so you were lucky on that one. They hunt snails at night by smothering them with a gooy slime and then devouring the flesh.

What insane reaction/reflexes instigated you to actually GRAB this thing bare handed? LOL!
I don't remember the details of my incident, but I probably shreaked like a little girl scout!

i have one as thick as my pinky finger somewhere in my tank. i tried to grab it with my long tongs but it pulled so hard i almost let go of my tongs.

i lost it so its still in there.

How funny, shrieking like a little girl scout-that’s just too much! Anyways I have been though a great deal of pain as I lost a whole herd of 8 breathtakingly beautiful Reidi and if me getting stung once to help prevent this heart ache again is all I have to do then bring it on...I don't need that sh@t in my life. Anyways I guess that answers the question of where all my snails went. I though it was the heat of the Nano cube roasting them alive! The worm in your pic looks redder than mine-but the structures are the same-thanks for a laugh and a worm ID

Man, that would freak me out lol. Have you guys seen the 7ft one found in OregonReef's tank? Now THAT would make me squeel like a lil girl watching a scary movie.

Ohhhh yha, now I remember that one-how could I forget, it gave me nightmares for weeks!!! What a sea monster it was...I was scared and stuff

The first picture looks like a eunicid worm. I have one a lot smaller (maybe not) that i am trying to get out of the tank. He is too quick and always leaves part of his body in the live rock. I tried removing the rock and dabbing the corals on it with salt water while the rest of the rock dried but no luck. I am getting impatient as I heard that as they grow some of the species like the taste of corals. So far he appears not to be interested in my snails or corals or anything else but I don't want him growing anymore and don't want to find out that he needs corals to fill up to grow to 7ft!
