worried about jumpers

Ok so I am getting ready to start my build this week and I have been thinking a lot about my canopy, my husband is going to build a wooden one that has an open back and has the lights suspended in it. However i'm worried about fish hoping out, I have heard about putting clear screens over the tank but i am going with a hang on the back overflow, and the return pipe from the sump with need to go thru it? Anyone have this same problem?

Here's how I did the screen tops for mine, to allow for power cords. This allows me to remove the front section for easy access but leave cords/plumbing alone. Get the screening from www.bulkreefsupply.com and the frame parts from HD/Lowes. Don't forget to get plenty of corners (I used 16) and the correct size spline.

Get your self some screen from Home Depot or lowes and staple it to the back of your canopy almost as if it was a back panel.

The BRS kits are great, however it depends on what type of lighting you are using. Under my 400w MH lights it became brittle and disentigrated in about a year.

This is the reason I like screen on the back of the canopy no light gets blocked and the screen does not become brittle.

If you're using a canopy, the only place they can jump is out the back or into the overflow right? So, since I use a canopy and have a few jumpers, I just used some gutter guard and protected the overflow and all the way across the back of the tank from the wall to the tank lip - secured it with velcro for easy removal.

Here's my post about it in case this might help. http://www.reefcentral.com/forums/showthread.php?t=2281529

Good advice above. Best to insure that fish cannot leave the aquarium. All fish can jump, but a mesh top as pictured above will prevent that.
