Worried about my clown

My clowns are going through their chasing and deciding who's who phase and i'm worried about my picasso.

I have 1 picasso (looks like he's going to be the male if his size and behaviour are anything to go by) and 1 occy (i was assured it was a perc when i bought it but it is not, she'll be the female and is already slightly bigger than the picasso).

So, they've been at this chasing and hiding nonsense for about a month now and the picasso was holding up pretty well. I noticed this morning though that his fins are quite ripped and he seems to be getting a slightly drained look to his colour. He just generally looks beaten up poor guy.

He's never been the brightest colour fish but he looks washed out right now.

Should i leave them be and let them sort it out? when is chasing and aggression considered too much? Will frequent wc's help his tail to heal or should i intervene and help.

Also, ho long can expect this to go on for? I've had them for probably over 2 months now and at first they were getting along great but now not so much.

I oddly think a tank disaster might have solved my clowns problem.

I discovered a tank leak today so had to transfer everything out of my tank and into a tub on the floor; tank needs repairs to the front seams.

Anyway, when transferring i caught the offending occy clown and bagged her with the intent to take her back to the store for credit. I was acclimating her to a temp tank for overnight and transport to the store tomorrow and she started acting very erratically. I got worried that maybe there was something in the tank, something that might have bled into the water that could be affecting her, i dislike her but don't really want to kill her. I took her bag over to the tub and floated it in there... strangely the little picasso came right over to swim by her and she was looking at him and swimming with him so i decided to put her into the tub and see how it went.

No chasing, no aggression, they're happily swimming side by side. Could it be that a little time apart has changed her view of him? could it be that the different rock structures and tub layout has disrupted her territory enough to calm her down? I would love not to have to take her back but her aggression was worrying me.

Has anyone experienced anything like this?
