Worried for my lions

Okay -- so I put the fuzzy back but now he's breathing heavy again and looking pale. Plus a weird film over his eyes. The angler went quickly and had a white film that covered his head and eyes. And now one of the fu's is breathing heavy. It seems like it's some kind of weird bacterial thing that is contagious. Renee ... heeelllppp! It does not appear to be affecting any other fish. I guess it could be something I fed them?

Yikes...I just dropped Renee off at the airport. She's flying up to Newfoundland to visit her folks/family for about 10 days.

So, to refresh...what fish are in that system, and of those, which are sick and what has died in that system?

How warm is the tank now? Have you had any seasonal temp spikes?

Hi Greg --

This is a continuation of the sick fuzzy thread. I was away for four days the week of July 4th, the fuzzy was still in QT and looked great, eating frozen and breathing normally. I did not have any concerns for the angler -- seemed fine when I left though he was hiding and I only got one piece of food into him. When I got home and looked at the angler -- who was in a different tank but the same system -- he looked terrible. He had a whitish grey film that covered his head, his right eye was closed with a white flake of some sort, and his breathing was terrible. I did not think he would make it and he lived only 1 day more.

But before he died I only had a few points to get the fuzzy up to DT salinity so I acclimated him, put him in the DT, and put the angler in the QT. I started lowering the temp and salinity and added some -- what's it called -- the tea tree oil based stuff. But it was too little and too late. He died on Sunday after I put him in the QT on Saturday.

The fuzzy looked and acted fine until the past day or so he keeps sitting on the circulation pump and is pale. He also looks very pale in the same places as the angler and has a film on his eyes although it looks like he can still see okay. By the time I got home the angler was blind.

Two days ago when I fed, the fuzzy ate fine but the fu's did not eat much. I thought they were just being fussy but, as of last night, one of them is now breathing hard.

My plan is to clean out the QT tonight when I get home and get both the fuzzy and the fu in there and start lowering the temp and salinity. I also have some furan 2 coming tomorrow night. I don't know what this is but the angler went down with it quickly, but I also believe they are a lot less hardy.

I do not see any problems with any other fish in the system. Whatever it is .. it is not good for predators. The only thing I can think of is that I feed all of them the same thing. I don't know what this is.

Update -- I did not move the lions last night. The QT is ready but I decided to leave them. I did drop the system temperature down again -- so I have it at 77. The fuzzy and the fu that is okay ate today. The other fu made a half hearted attempt but did not eat and is still breathing heavy and hiding. Keeping an eye on her though.

Okay -- caught sick fu and is now in Furan 2. Breathing hard and white scales. Tank has live food too. Vitamin C too. Fingers crossed. Temp and salinity dropping.
