As the title says... anyone know what kind he is? Looks like a fire red...but not too sure.

Thanks Guys.

Can you post any other shots? A profile of the body would be nice, as well as a close up of the head in both profile and whatever way shows off the cornet the best.

Do you know anything about the horse? I assume that, if the person who sold it doesn't know what species it is, the horse was bought from a retail store. More than likely, this horse should be treated as a wild caught horse.

It could be a reidi (which is what I am going to assume you are referring to when you say "fire red" -- I am not familiar with that being used as a common name for any seahorse species; sounds more like a marketing ploy IMO), but it isn't possible to ID for sure from the photo and information posted.

Correct assumption that it was from a store. I posted this on a few threads and it has been mutually agreed that it is a reidi. I'll try to get some better photos tonight. I know the "fish guy" there and he says they got them in from the wild from a diver friend. Who knows if true or not, but I agree to treat it as wild.

From that pic it looks like my male angustus except better colour.

That was my first thought Ray.

Can only be captive bred if it is.

A better profile shot is needed for a proper ID.

If he found a captive bred angustus in Ohio, that'd really be something. It's likely one of the species known to be available in the U.S. like H. reidi, H. kelloggi, or H. erectus. I'm leaning reidi, too, but it's all guesses without a profile shot.
