Would multiple frags of the same coral compete with eachother or grow together?

I'm in the design phase of setting up an aquarium after not having had one for years. I love the looks of many of the ORA frags, but I don't have the patience to grow a single 1" frag out into a sizable colony.

If I were to get 5 frags of the same coral and place them about an inch apart from each other would they eventually grow into a single harmonious colony or would they compete and kill each other off?

Hey Victor--that's a fair question! Placing multiple frags on the same coral on a disc is a common strategy used to promote coral growth by many. It would work well!

ORA would be a great place to start, as certainly you would want to be certain you were dealing with the exact same species...

Yes they would grow together and gradually become one coral.

+1 and they will grow together even if they have been separated in different tanks/systems for 4+ years.
