I've got a 60x18X24 "120g" now. It's not reef ready. I've had it running for 4 years and it's upgrade time. I've settled on a 180 72x24x24 RR simply because space is an issue.

I plan on 2 islands of LR with lots of open sand in the display (with tons of LR in the sump)

Currently I have 2 x 250w halides, no actinic. Upon upgrading my original plan was to add 1 x 400w (to place in the center) and 4 60" VHO actinics... and to leave my 2 x 250w on either side of the 400w. That would work fine but the more I think about it.. I have a softie tank now.. and I want to keep the softies going forward. Could I just do without the 400w?

What do you think about just having my current 2 x 250's, 1 over each rock island.. plus the 4 VHO's? It's not a matter of cost.. I just don't forsee needing that 400w... WWRCD?

I wouldn't add the 400w halide. If the 250's don't give you enough spread you could think about adding another 250.

Cool thank you everyone! I've never had VHO's and am looking forward to it. Can I ask for recommendations on bulbs?

with the 2 x 250w 10K bulbs, should I proceed with 4 actinic VHO's (I love more blue than white in the tank but not washed out blue)

Or should I go 3 blue, 1 white?

i haev somethign to similar to what you have

one tall rock structure on the lfet side of my 29, about 5 inches of sand and open spae in the middle, adn on the right side, about 6 inches tall rock sturcture

Dont need 400's. Stay with the 250's. Scorching and adding heat for real.
