Would this work?

I have a 55g tank and I was thinking about dividing it into four 12 inch sections, and placing a pair of clowns in each one of those sections with a clay tile and a clay pot. I would need to get some sort of dark baffles of some sort so the pairs of clowns do not see each other(if anyone has any ideas at to what to use that would be great). Also for filtration I was thinking about in each section have a HOB filter, or an overflow box going to a 55g fuge behind it.But if I decide to do that Im not sure how I will have the water returned to the tank evenly.

Any input would be nice if you think this can work or if its a good idea.

I would jus use acrylic to divide it four ways, drill the tank and but bulkheads in each section and just plumb it into a sump and have a big pump return everything. A rubbermaid sump with as much live rock as I could afford and a decent skimmer. If you want them to breed that is if not im pretty sure there are other ways

Yes, it would work. You could use smoked (black) acrylic (with small holes drilled for water movement), or just use eggcrate to keep the pairs separate. They'll learn that the eggcrate is impenetrable and not bother each other.

would definitely work. I would probably use something opaque though.
Probably a white acrylic or somethig so the fish can't see their "tankmates" and it will be easier to see any fry you want to remove.

Thanks for all the replies and some new ideas. As for something separating the pairs. Would eggcrate bbe good even if they can see each other. I thought about using that at first ut didnt think I could because the pairs would always see each other.

As far as filtration for this setup what do you all think would be best? I will be feeding pretty heavy.

Don't use Eggcrate! If you are trying to breed clowns they need to utilize as much of their energy reserves as possible to engage in reproductive activities and producing quality egg masses. Threatening and bullying their neighbors is both a distraction and a waste of breeding energy. I've been breeding Onyx Percs for several years now.
