I do not believe that system set-up would need skimming...

Bioload will be quite low...as long as you do not overfeed.
Which I doubt you would do.
 
Nope, I would not even bother buying a skimmer.

Just keep up water changes and the pipefish will be fine.

I also wouldn't mind seeing the 500 you have in mind.

GASP! uh, when you do water changes, just use the reef tank water for the smaller tank. i do this on my starfish tank and everything seems fine.

nice tank too!

Interesting idea. That may work depending on the water in your 240. By the looks of it everything seems perfect.

yup the 240 is up and running for a couple of years and all is well. I will be setting a biocube29 will post pics soon.
