from the photo it looks as if the tang was dead before the anemone got ahold of it....

What you are seeing is the anemone regurgitating the fish. The fish disappeared for 2 days before the guy found his anemone 'pooping' him out.

aah...I thought he looked a little the worse for wear....

my neon gobie got dragged by my clownfish into my large RBTA the other day, but he jetted out before being munched. (Both fish had locked onto the same piece of food.)

An anemone must be able to catch something live and healthy--or how else would they survive in the wild
by catching and eating things that are dead and unhealthy ;)

My understanding is that they "catch" small particles that filter down from the reef, and regurgitate 99% of everything else...I forget which published fish& coral guru wrote this but it was one of the biggies

--Bingo, it was Anthony Calfo. :)

hungry anemone

hungry anemone

I kept that anemone for about 5 years and I never lost a fish to it...
But...I kept it well fed....very well fed...

But...thats what they do when they are hungry...they eat fish.....

Should not be a surprise to anyone really...

That must have been one heck of a large anemone....

Mine was 12-14 inch in diameter and that one just seems bigger.
