I answered my own question by looking at your homepage lol. That one is beautiful, if you dont mind me asjing what did you have to give for that one?

Amazing color! shocking price. If I paid that much for an anemone, my wife would build a guillotine on the back porch and stick me in it. :)

Yep, that one is mine. I got it from Pacific East about 3 months ago -- the price was less then the DD/LA one, but more then $200. :)

Usually $300-500 for a red anemone is about tops. Someone will snag that one eventually, or they will drop the price a hundred and it will go. Pretty expensive fish eater though:D

How's everyone's experience with the carpets in their tank with other fishes? What's the casuality percentage? I'm been thinking about what type of nem to add to my new tank. A flame rbta would be safer than a pink/red carpet...but man I really want a red carpet...

It is more going to be when is a fish going to getting eaten, as opposed to if a fish will get eaten.

For me,

Tan haddoni -- have had it for 12+ years -- yellow watchman goby & clean up crew
Red haddoni -- have had it for about 4 months now -- only eaten clean up crew
Green Haddoni -- have had for about 3 years now -- ate a Golden dwarf angel -- mainly because the angel and the pink skunk pair would fight & clean up crew
Green with purple rim Haddoni -- had for about 1.5 years -- only eaten clean crew

Ones I no longer have

Green striped haddoni -- had for about 2 years before I sold it -- ate a newly introduced flameback angel, was chased into it & clean up crew
Blue Haddoni -- had for about 4 years before I lost it --- Mandarin & clean up crew.

Todd,

I feel bad for your clean up crews. :D

and it looks like I won't be getting a carpet if based on your experience. My fishes are too valuable to risk it. =(

I will add I introduced a couple od olive green haddonis into my 120. I have had a marine betts for about eight years. Did a water change next thing I know is he is in yje tentacles of the haddoni. Looked like Seymour in little shop of horrors.

The only fish safe with carpets are clown fish.

I know of one haddoni that a friend had (green striped) that actually was observed eating not 1, not 2, but 3 male B&W clownfish. It had one heck of a sting!

I would say if you want an anemone for your tank well "A bulb" won't eat your fish. I have two in my forty gallon with lots of fish and everyone seems to get along. Don't get me wrong the fish won't touch it, but if they do they can get away. Putting a Haddoni in your reef tank is like putting a fish trap in there.

Hey it looks like someone purchased it! If you think about it whats the difference between $700 and say $400 if you get a healthy animal, and if my experience of purchasing two 'common' Haddoni from LA is any indication, the purchaser got a healthy excellent animal with a great 14 day guarantee.

My question is why don't other online retailers offer the same guarantee? If LA can do it why can't say Extreme Corals do it also? I hate it when they say our guarantee doesn't apply to Anemones. If an Anemone is properly cared for and settled it they generally are pretty hardy.

When I got my two Anemones from LA there was evidence that they had been feeding them Mysis shrimp since some was in the bag that the Anemone barfed up. Also when I put them under my two 250 watt MH bulbs they seem to handle the light OK giving me evidence that they had been stored under high intensity lighting. Is LA the only vendor who has figured out how to store/care for Anemones and thus give a 14 day live guarantee also?

Jason

I believe it has more to do with the fact that LA will hold the nem for a few weeks before they put it up for sale.

The other vendors put it up for sale the day the get it in stock. If it's a rare or sought after type, no guarantee isn't going to deter some buyers. I guess it's a matter of how they choose to do business.

Thanks for the input Ed, but holding the Anem a couple of weeks makes a big difference in it's survivability. Too bad mor vendors don't do this.
