Wow!! Temp drop!!

After the chiller running yesterday, i decided to go pickup two of the Panasonic whisperquiet exaust fans(http://www.waveplumbing.com/store/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=55_77&products_id=149) and hook them up via 4 inch flex duct to my canopy. The exaust fans are completly silent and each push 110 cfm @ .8 sones. The fans sit under the stand, and the duct runs up to the canopy, behind the overflows. It takes cool air from the stand and blows it up into the canopy. I also have a 1/3 flip up hinge on the top of the canopy to let hot air out.

When i got home all my lights were on(3-250w,2-160w VHO) , and JoAnna's tank light(1-150w) was on and my temp was 80.7. After hooking up the fans to the Aquacontroller and running for an hour and a half the temp is now 80.1 and dropping!!!, deffinitly cheaper than running the chiller.

Jeff,

Nice! I was always wondering about the flex duct running behind the tank. I knew you told me about the idea but never saw a fan connected until now. Is there a reason why your chiller wasn't on or was it?

I picked them up from Platt Electric supply off of Dutton, I paid 108 for the 110cfm units. Mike has an account at Platt, otherwise i think their a little more expensive. Mike has the 80 cfm unit and i think it was 92 dollars but they were out of them.

I've been keeping my tank between 69 and 72 with a fan in the canopy and one on the sump :) I am still going to buy a chiller though so i don't evaporate so much.

water is alot cheaper than electricity even after the rodi. It wouldnt be a bad idea to get one for security, but i would still use the fans as the primary cooling.

Yeah, I guess your right. maybe a could get by with a small chiller as a just in case to bring the temp down on a hot day.

If you could pull the air from under the house, that would bring in much cooler temp. Under the cabinet may still be warm with your ballast running. Might just have to drill some more holes:D !

Hey Chris, that was the original plan. just havnt done it yet

Wheewwwhh weee. just god done underneath the house running a cat5 cable for my ac3 and installing the fans underneath the house. the temp was at least 10-15 degrees lower than in the house.

I am going there to pick up a couple more for a sidejob if anyone wants i can pick up one or two extra if anyone is interested. They were $116 total and you can pay me when you pick up.

Jeff,
did you put any kind of filter between under the house and the tank?
