Wrasse arrived with injured mouth. Is it doomed?

Blue Zoo is refusing to refund my shipping charge, even though they sent me the wrong fish, which cost me $150 for a new QT setup, just to watch it die since it arrived injured. And the owner tried to tell me he did me a favor by sending me a larger fish, even though I specifically ordered a juvenile.

Was it the only fish/coral in the order?

Yeah that's tough.

Shipping a 4" fish when stated 1.5" stinks, but to be honest it happens.

We try to stay on top of that, but I know there has been a few times larger/smaller fish have been shipped. We try to deal with it case by case. Can only think of one order where there was a big problem with it.

Mistakes happen. But you man up and accept responsibility.

The funny thing here is they purposely sent me a larger fish without bothering to ask me if that was ok. And still refuse to refund the shipping charge even though they know how much their decision inconvenienced me monetarily and emotionally.

There are certain times when a person's actions speak very loudly to their true character. Mark, the owner, had a chance to make things right, but instead chose not to and send me an obnoxious email about why he is keeping my $40.

And what is worse, I suspect you are only getting a store credit good for one year. I shop for fish based on guarantee. Always.

Very unfortunate. Take your money elsewhere. For what it's worth, I've always been pleased with Live Aquaria - both the quality of their livestock and their customer service. Hope your next fish acquisition results in a healthy animal.

Normally just refund in this situation. If there were other fish/coral in the order we wouldn't refund shipping...

... unless it was the reason for the order.

Case by case really.

In this case would probably do a full refund or ship out a replacement.

Exquisite wrasse from blue zoo arrived today and his mouth is clearly injured. Is he doomed? Is there anything I can do? Antibiotics? What kind?

Haven't even tried feeding him. I also ordered a small "up to 1.5 inches" and they sent me an over 4 inch fish. It's pretty cramped in my 5.5 gallon QT. That worries me also. They really screwed me. I may have to go buy a larger tank but can't until monday. First thing first, tell me what to do for his mouth wound. What meds should I try to find?
I've always had good luck with Bluezoo. I would suggest a phone call but it's too late tonight. Hopefully not doomed but you should keep tank dark and quiet, add stress coat.

Thanks CA. Going to try furan 2 to prevent infection. And I figure it can't hurt to try miraflex as well, even though no one knows if it does anything, I don't think it could make it worse.

Another problem is the fish is seriously stressed. If he's not in a pvc pipe and someone walks by the tank, he flips out. And watching an almost 5 inch wrasse flip out in a 5 gallon tank is painful to see. He very well couldve injured his mouth right after I put him in the tank, rather than during shipment. But this QT was waiting for a fish one third of his size.

What's going to happen is I'm going to buy a 20 gallon long tomorrow, a bigger airhead, a piece of plywood to put over the desk that was only big enough for a 5 gallon QT, invest a bunch more money just to watch this beautiful fish die. I can see it already.

This is so sad and frustrating and annoying. Such a gorgeous creature. Going to cover the tank for 24 hours. Let him relax. Then stress him out again tomorrow, but at least get him into a tank that will give him a bit of swimming room. BZ should refund my money AND credit me for all this extra money I have to spend to try to keep alive the mistake they sent me.
Cover the sides of the 5.5 gal so he doesn't get anymore stressed. I don't think it needs a larger tank and you are right the move may be too much. I wouldn't over medicate - could cause more problems overreacting. Wrasse shipped are always pretty stressed. I put mine in a "shielded" tank to acclimate -just done cardboard along the sides. Once he's healed you can sell locally. What kind of wrasse is it?

Sorry I obviously came into the end of this conversation. I am sorry you had problems with bluezoo. That's dissappointing 😡

Didn't make it. :sad2:

He was doing so well. And then bam. Could he have had a bad reaction to the furan? I followed the directions exactly. But he basically went from fine to dead in 36 hours once the furan was added. I just want to try to learn something from this.
Sorry 😢
