Wrasse has ICK

I got a Scarlet Pin Stripe Wrasse in the main early this week who is now showing a white spot on his tail. He is currently in a quarantine tank so did not infect a tank thankfully, but I have read that wrasses do not tolerate copper treatment well...

What would you treat with? Is Cupramine OK or will that kill him? Other suggestions are welcome. Thanks!

Another option is tank transfer. If it was in the main the main is infected.

Sorry to be confusing, but he was ordered online and I received him in the mail last Tuesday.

Cupramine will harm this type of wrasse? I have just not tried tank transfer before.

i don't know about the effect of cupramine on wrasses. i know lots of people use it w/o a problem.

tank transfer is very easy. it's a little time consuming if you are on a tight schedule but really, it doesn't take that long and it's a sure thing to get rid of ich.

i have two 10g tanks i use. each tank is identical...a heater, an air stone, some pvc elbows for hiding places for the fish. the key to this method is timing and to make sure everything is completely dry before it's used again for another transfer. airstones and tubing should be new with each transfer.

there's a thread (in think in this forum) that explains it in detail. trust me, it sounds more complicated/intimidating than it is.

Is it just a single white spot? Is he showing any other symptoms? Might not be ich.

I've found wrasses are pretty good with copper as long as you go slow, but I prefer TTM.

I just looked at him, and apart from the white spot in the center of his tail, he looks pristine.

He is eating well and active otherwise.

People keep stating you have to throw away your hose and airstones. Seems you could just boil them for about 30sec and you would be fine to re-use. I know they don't cost a lot but why waste money if you don't need to.

I see what your saying but when doing TT you need to have the incoming tank up and running before moving the fish. This means the water needs to circulating/aerating before hand so you need 2 of everything.

of all the things we buy in this hobby, airline tubing and little air stones have to be about the least expensive. it just isn't worth taking a chance by reusing them.

put the cost of replacing these things with each tt up against the cost of losing a $50 fish because you tried to cut corners.

Agree! Plus the cost of trying to save/treat the fish after the fact.
