wrasse help

Brandon's Reef

I have a scott's fairy wrasse and a possum wrasse I had to cover the top because I understood they were jumpers. Is the scott's a jumper because my tank hits 90 with the top on and I think the odds of him dieing from the heat is far greater than him jumping. would he jump if I removed the top and is it the flashers that jump or would this be to risky?

Eggcrate actually increases the lighting on your tank by focusing the light towards the tank and eleminating light that floods out. Just have to have the right side down

? I guess if it were mounted to the lights and not laying on the tank. I'm lost by "having the right side down", I thought everyone used white eggcrate?

Brandon's Reef why not a canopy?

No laying on the tank take a piece and look at it one seide is thicker then on the other side I just cant remeber which focuses light since one way it focuses light and the other it diffueses the light.

Hi
I had the same problem as you, and I didnt want glass or egg crate. How about this, frame the perimeter of your tank with pvc tube then use fishing line to make a grid. Instant fish barrier! A fellow reef colleague's idea.

wow awsome very excellent idea how would you suggest going about doing it on a corner tank? it would be difficult with the bow and all.

For the corner bow it would take some work, but it is possible to do. For the bow I would cut small sections probably a few inches each of PVC and cut them at angels to each other so they fit, thus making the bow. You'll probably need alot. This way you can piece them together and glue them. The frame does not have to be tight because you lay it over your existing top frame. Once you have the bow the rest is cake. I suggest you also make notches for the string with a saw or soldering gun. Otherwise the string will slip and slide all over. I also super glued the string on top of the frame as well to further prevent slipping. Hope this helps, good luck.

I will get started on that tomorrow thank you for your extensive response while it does look tedious it is well worth it for my fish.

Its not too bad, just take your time and do it right- it should last you a long time. Its a lot better than crate and glass thats for sure. Reef On!

On a corner tank I would start with a 90 degree elbow. Run 1/2" liniar tubes 32" long and on the end of those run 1/2" 45 degree elbows. Don't glue anything toghther yet. now cut your 1/2' stick of pvc longer than 45" to get your bow in the pipe. It should bow easy being 1/2". After you figure out your proper bend I'd glue the 45's on and then the 32" pieces and finally your 90. Then string it up. Have fun.

My scott's recently died from jumping. He would jump almost every day. I have a complete enclosed canopy and most times he would just bounce of the canopy. This last time he got himself stuck on the center brace. I thought he would have flopped around until he made it back into the water. Guess I was wrong. I would cover the tank. They seem to be one of the most skittish that I have come across.
