Wrasse shedding slime coat?

Seems I've had the worst luck lately with fish.

I purchased a pseudochromis fridmani and mccosker's flasher wrasse on Sunday and they had been doing perfectly fine eating and loving life in the QT.

It's a 10 gallon tank barebottom with an aquaclear 30 HOB filter with no media in it. I've used all water from my display tank to set it up and to perform water changes which i did for the first time last night before dosing prazipro.

This morning my flasher wrasse is not looking so good upside down and very mucusy, more so than when he is sleeping. The pseudochromis looks fine and there is no ammonia and pH (8.2), SG (1.025), nitrates (not detectable) all look good. Temperature is around 77-78.

The wrasse was active throughout the day now he is hiding and turning upside down. Listless and looks like he's on his last legs. He ate a little this morning though.

Very frustrated because I've been struggling to get anything through QT lately, lots of infected fish. Thinking about buying online instead of locally.

I would think that it's swim bladder disease, but the fish seems to swim fine when it's not at rest.

I will try this though. I've had swim bladder issues in my QT tank before, hope it's not something I'm doing wrong.

What i'm most baffled by is all the white stuff coming off of the fish.

I always wonder why people bother with QT set ups like this, seems more people kill fish during QT than necessary IMO. QT's can be tricky to run and set up and if you buy from a good vendor online or locally you shouldn't have a huge disease problem.

Looking at your signature info you only have 2 clowns so why are you bothering with all this QT stuff, you're wasting your time and lots of $$ If you had a nice large established reef tank with lots of expensive fish than I understand doing a QT set up. But if you have a smaller tank like you do with a few cheap fish why bother??.

I have never had issues with putting fish directly into any of my display tanks past or present. Never QT'd a thing and have barely lost any fish over the years; except a random jumper here and there.

The reason I'm doing QT is because I don't want to infect my DT if I get any bad fish.

I have broader plans to add more fish in the future and I feel like if I don't QT it will be more of a hassle to tear down the DT than the QT.

^ well it seems like your QT isnt working out very well currently. Trying to maintain a 10G tank as a QT tank is hard to do and you will get ammonia spikes really fast.

I understand you are trying to do the "right" thing but still I think you are wasting your time, money and effort at this stage. Like I said I have seen many new comers have huge headaches and fish losses trying to QT in such small tanks.... your fish will be happier in a healthy display tank and actually live.

IMO just find a healthy looking fish and throw it in the tank. Once again I have been in this hobby for years and years never QT'd and I would venture to say my overall fish loss was less than 10% easily.
