sorry i cant git the search to work so..
right now i have 75g FOWLR with 1" of crushed coral witch i thought at first would be fine sence its just a FOWLR tank and i could clean it every so often but i realy whant to get a snowflake eel or zebra eel and either a red coris or lunar wrasse(i will be upgradeing to a 6' tank yes)is CC realy going to scrach them up? at the LFS they have some small lunars with CC and they seem fine or do they not dive in the sand like other wrasses? and is it realy that bad for eels? is there any way around it besides takeing it all out?

My lunar lays in rock crevices. The only thing he does in my cc is move it around with his mouth. I wouldn't keep anything but cc with these fish or you would have sand all over your tank.

The lunar will be fine with CC, but the Coris needs sand as they are one of the sand burrowing wrasses. The eels will do alright in just about any substrate, but sand with mixed rubble does the best for making burrows.

I had a snowflake eel for around two years. I kept him with sand at first and later with cc. The eel was fine with both. I had a red coris wrasse for a few months and they definately need sand to sleep.

I personally will not keep a snowflake eel with a borrowing wrasse. Maybe my eel was unique, but he ate both of my borrowing wrasses within a two month period. I had a 4+" dragon wrasse and 5+" red coris wrasse. I believe he took them both at night while they were buried and easy targets. I never saw the eel try to eat any other fish.

I've had 2 red-coris's with eels in the past with no problems. I currently have a 7" red-coris with a 30" white-mouth moray. Never a problem. substrate has always been fine sand.

thanks guys i will stay with the CC then, is it possibel to provide a sand burrowing wrasse with an area of sand to sleep in and still use the CC? like put some in a corner and surrond it with rocks to keep it there? if not i think i will go with a lunar but i also have a small volitan lion if i get a lunar the same size is there a good chance it might harasse it or kill it?

I have a Red Coris I would not do it with CC. He sleeps somewhere different every night. If you want to stick with CC do a Bird Wrasse instead. They sleep in the rocks and do not bury.

IMHO, I would replace the CC with Aragonite before you stock the CC never seems to clean and causes the PH to max out around 7.9. I switched mine and I'm so glad I did. Easier to clean as well.

Aragonite is a great substrate.

The other question if going with a lunar or bird wrasse is what else is going in your tank. Those wrasses can be quite evil.

my planed list is volitan lion (4") & niger trigger(2.5-3")sence i have them in a smaller tank and there waiting for the 75, and i plan on a small zebra eel and a lunar wrasse and mabie another fish,

i will be upgradeing when i need to this tank is mosltey an experiment to how everything gos before i start a bigger tank, iam seeing how my tap water works out and makeing my own rock(have some live that i bought and some from another tank to seed it with)when i need to i have a 6'X18"X20" i can set up right now its FW but if need it its there

if it makes a diffrence iam going to have a 30g sump(as soon as i get a return pump)and coil denitrator on the 75g tank, iam not sure if iam going to buy a skimmer or DIY one yet though
