Wrasses for a 320 recomendations please

My wrasse fever in in full swing. I am setting up my 320 with a few Flasher and Fairy wrasses. I wonder if what I have in mind is workable.

The tank is a external overflow 320 with tight cover for sure. There will be no holes for small wrasses to jump out. Once invertebrates establish, the wrasses will be the first to go in.
One potential problem is in the tank, there will be a numbers of anemones, Giganea, Haddoni and Magnifica. My Leopard trio have navigated these dangerous anemone without problem so I hope Fairy and Flasher wrasses will do the same. In addition to the anemones, there will be mostly SPS with a few minor LPS (Fungia, Catalaphyllia and Euphyllia).
I planed to have harems of three species of Flasher wrasses P. flavianalis, P. carpenteri, and P. mccoskeri. P planed to have one male of each species and two or so females of each species, about 10 total.
In addition to these, I like to add two male Fairy wrasses of species yet to be determine. I also may added 4-6 Royal Gramma to the mix.

Eventually I wanted to added 3 Leopard wrasses. Tangs will be added, in order Tomini, Foxface Lo, Purple, and Powder blue.

Other fishes will be 3-4 Flame angels, two Regal angels. The Regal angels will likely be in before Purple and Powder blue tangs. 2 Marine Beta. Last to go in will be an Australian Harlequin Tusk. I have 120 gal, 40 gal and 65 gal tanks in addition to the 320. All fish will be healthy and fat before going into the 320 DT

What do the experts think? Workable? I am very new to wrasses and really love these active and beautiful fishes.

I started to read more newer information on line, especially the one written by evolved. I think I may have to rethink harem of wrasses. May be I will just have a bunch of males.

I would skip on the tusk. I know it's one of your favorite wrasse. Mine too. But my tusk is killing all the other wrasse in my 560gal. 1 by 1.. it took him a few months to know the tank and then went nuts. He's been with the same wrasse in my 150gal.

Killed:
3 rhomboid
1 lineatus
2 flame
2 magma
1 pintail
1 mccoskers

He's fine with everyone else. Just not wrasse. And no new wrasse can survive in the tank. Even with acclimation box. The tusk just chases them all day long. he's only 2.5 inches big. nowhere near grown

I also have no luck with harems. 3 will always lead to 1. At most 2 if i get lucky. They all turn male and kill the previous male.

wrasse is my favorite type of fish. here are some I owned and highly recommend. all reef safe:

Flame (easy to pair)
Hooded Flame (flame with orange fin, not very common and even harder now with Hawaii ban)
Mccosker's (easy, beautiful, and flashes every wrasse out there)
Golden Rhomboid (easy to pair. super nice gold when flashing)
Lineatus (very hard to pair up.. male gets a little aggressive.)
Magma (very nice red with orange tail, new specie recently discovered)
Pintail (very nice pink and sharp pin tail)
Red tail flasher (rare, aggressive on Yellow)
Yellow tail flasher (common, shy)
Lennardi (getting more common lately.. the blue on it is ridiculously nice. and it grows to 1ft long)
Feminus (very nice combo of yellow and blue. hard to find in wrasse. but loses the color after turning male. better to keep in pair)
Melanurus (worker. eats pest, dark green that's not found often)
Yellow corris (worker. pure yellow to balance the red and blue wrasses)
Bluestreak Cleaner Wrasse (very active, eats parasites off of fish)
Mystery wrasse (weird alien looking, DON'T mix with fairy wrasse)

Wrasse is fine with carpets. If you are worried, you can have night light for awhile so they can see at night. I have 2 gigs, 3 haddoni and a few bta in tank. no casualties

Thanks. I think I will not add a Tusk. Over several years, I have not any mortality due to my Tusk, other than newly added cleaner shrimp. I do target feed my Tusk until he eats no more. I worry every time I went on vacation and on return, I always stand in front of the tank to account for all of my smaller fishes and shrimp.
Good to know about the anemones. It would be impossible for me to choose wrasses over my anemones. If it come to this, I will have to set up another tank.

Recently added a rubrisquamis (red velvet) to my 450 and it's become among my favorites. Other wrasses include a bluestreak cleaner, bipartitus, lapillus and a pin tail. Have a few other leopards in QT.

m0nkie,
Thanks. I like to ask what do you mean exactly regarding easy to pair? Can you keep them in harem or pair in a smaller tank like a 60 or 40 gal tank?
Thanks for your recommendation

not harem. I have tried them multiple times with 3. In fact I just put 3 juvi flame wrasse in my 150gal 2 months ago and i'm down to 2 already. 1 was getting picked by the bigger of the 3.

Flame and Rhomboids always paired up for me. The female remains female longer. they are also less aggressive. other wrasse like to pick on others of same color. Female turns juvi male and immediately harass original male. Lineatus is specially mean

I guess you don't really recommend that I keep pairs of these then. Elegance Coral have a video of his flame Wrasse spawned, but he did not said how long he had them, and if they still pair in his tank.

I would try pair with Flame and Rhomboid. One of the best looking ones flashing imo. Mccosker and Flasher wrasse also look great flashing. just pay attention to the female's size. feeding them well also speeds up the turning process.

if you have the time to find a Mohawk flame, well worth it

These are my top 2 fairy wrasses.
On the mid range priced wrasses I would recommend
1. Naoko Fairy (Might not get along with Hooded fairy wrase)

2. Pink Margin Fairy (Might not get along with Lineatus)
https://www.bluezooaquatics.com/productDetail.asp?did=1&pid=967&cid=290
3. Exquisite Fairy (Might not get along with Scott’s Fairy)
https://www.bluezooaquatics.com/productDetail.asp?did=1&pid=954&cid=290
4. Yellow Fin Fairy
https://www.bluezooaquatics.com/productDetail.asp?did=1&pid=956&cid=290

I am leaning toward a bunch of Flasher wrasses and a few Fairy wrasses. It seem like most of the Flasher wrasses will get along other than Eightline Flasher wrasse. Fairy wrasses on the other hand, I have to pick and choose, make sure that they will tolerate each other and will not harasses my Fairy wrasses. Is this true in general?

Carpenters, McCoskers and Yellow Fin flasher wrasses are very identical and hard to tell apart for many people. If I were doing a flasher wrasse collection I’d go for distinct subspecies:
McCosker's
Angular Flasher
Either Blue Flasher or Linespot Flasher Wrasse
8 line flasher. It will be ok in 320 gallon with other flasher wrasses.
Here's an 8-line I used to have:

Hi! I am a Wrasse junkie too.....! Your list sounds good in that size tank....I have seven Wrasses...2 of them are leopards...one ornate and one bipartus... sometimes though it can be difficult to mix Wrasses...for example I have a blue sided fairy Wrasse male...and that fish chases all new Wrasses I have put in after him....but gives up after a few days....I was surprised to see that out of a fairy Wrasse ...lol! Also I have a large blue haddoni nem...and 4 large RBT nems....and the Wrasses navigate around them just fine. Good luck with your tank! [emoji16]
