wrong clownfish twitching

so i have had this same occ. clownfish for 4 years now. it is the only fish in the tank for nearly the whole time. Due to the above fact, i know this clown is the female.

today i bought a tiny occ. clownfish. i am fairly positive it is too small to be gendered yet.

i put the baby clown in a clear breeder container inside the tank for several hours to help introduce them, and it seemed to have helped with the aggression quite abit.

But here is what i confusing me. When the female goes towards the small one, the female starts twitching at the baby. i have always thought the twitching was done to show submission. the baby has not twitched at all and the female keeps doing it.

they are swimming together and mostly seem to be getting along so far, but can anyone explain why the female is doing the twitching and not hte other way around

She is adult and ready to breed. Twitching is their way of showing that. He is just a little boy and doesn't know what to do with it yet, rofl....

Yep, perfectly normal. She's showing signs of wanting to pair up. The juvie will take a while to figure it out.

the baby made it through the night. They werent sleeping in the same area, but once i woke them up to check on them, they started swimming together again. i am trying not to get my hopes up yet, but i have tried many moons ago to get a second clown and it didnt work.

If he made it that long, you have a very good chance. I have a Solomon Islands Clown that was initially paired up with a black and white ocellaris clown. Then, I paired her up with a premium snowflake.

When I moved them to a smaller cube, she killed the snowflake. I purchased her a small snowflake male about 2 weeks ago, as soon as I put him in the tank she proceeded to try to kill him. I don't mean bully him, I mean attack him and shake him like Jaw's lol.

So I would say you are pretty safe.

All clownfish are born as males.. One clownfish will be the bully and turn into a female. She earns being the dominate female by terrorizing the other clowns... explains marriage. :headwally:

Yeah, some females can be absoltely crazy (and cruel) @-@. Poor males.

Actually they are all born genderless, the strongest becomes female and the second strongest becomes male. If the female dies then the male becomes female and the next strongest becomes male. A female cant go from female to male, but a male can go from male to female, and neither can go back to genderless
