some people must really have some money to burn.....wish I was one of them!!!

I see one of your interetss in road biking- how much does a good road bike cost nowadays? People spend money on what moves them. I dont buy fancyy cars, bikes, jewelry, etc. I buy fish.

Money to burn? I could never understand why people say that?

U are right about that, I just went with a friend of mine and he drop 3K for a road bike and he still needed to get some work done so he ended up paying almost $4500 for the bike, what surprise me was that he told me that that was an entry level bike, I just can imagine what a good bike might cost.

Wait until you need to buy diapers :rolleye1:

I never understand why people are so cryptic about who actually buys the high end fish off sites like LA. I am assuming that based on all the vague banter that jmaneyapanda purchased it. Fess up, no need for modesty. And even better yet post a ton of pics upon arrival.

It's all about superstitions man... they go a long way. None of my new acqusitions become public until they're settled in and here for the long haul. I'm worse than hockey players during playoffs!

"Very superstitious, writings on the wall,
Very superstitious, ladders bout to fall..."

Gorgeous fish BTW

I totally agree with you. Also, there is nothing that says "JACKBUTT" across your forehead more than proclaiming "look at my $$$$$ fish" the minute you get it and have it die on you the next week

How long have you been Reef Central? Take a look around...The majority of threads in the Fish forums are just that. I personally have not posted pics of my recent aquisitions, not because of silly superstitions, but because I don't necessarily feel like I have to go out of my way to impress people. I keep fish for my own enjoyment, not to gain some sort of validation from others. Fish die, even expensive ones, no need to be embarrased about it......

yeah, back in the 90's when I got into angelfish and butteflyfish you didn't even take pictures of your prize fish. Most people I knew back than that had to real rare stuff like myself wouldn't even talk about what they had........I always felt like it was a cloak and dagger type thing.

The other things about posting expensive fish is the comments that others make about the "money to burn" and "that thing better cook and clean the house for that much", etc.

I say forget showing pix of fish, rare or common. I'd like to see more of whoever that is in your avatar

Am I the only one that reads contradicting statements here?

Putting up a picture of a new $$$ acquisition to try and impress someone, and just admitting to having purchased a wrought iron butterfly are two different things. If someone asked me if i bought the fish off Diver's Den, I would at least let you know if I did or didn't, especially if there is an implication that I did. Jmaneyapanda has in the past told us what he bought or is going to buy. However I know he is not a fan of posting pics of his magnificent collection of fish, so my first comment was more of a playful jab at him specifically. If you are familiar with his past posts, it took him a while to get some pics of his Gem tang up for our amusement. I reread my comments and can understand how they may be misconstrued as contradictory.

Meh....if you wanna post a pic of a fish you just bought, great! If not....great!

What's the issue here?

How about we get back on topic. Are there any RC members with any long-ish term experience with the wrought Iron Butterfly?

yeah, road bikes are expensive, but I bought those when I was not a poor Grad student.

But if you ask a bunch of people on the street if they would spend 2 grand on a bike, they would probably say no, but not have a jaw drop; ask them about spending two grand on a fish, and most will drop their jaw or give you a "are you nuts?" face.

I am not trying to stir up argument, just envious of those that have the coin to buy a fish for this kind of money that could end up dying. At least my road bike will be around forever, or at least until I am too old to get my leg over the top tube ;)

And yeah, pictures would be nice, whenever it shows up :)

My jaw dropped when my neighbor (serious cyclist) told me his bikes were 1-2k each... I didn't know bikes went for more than $600. It's all relative. I don't think 2k is too much for a fish. If I had the money and the fish I really wanted was 2k I'd buy it without regrets.

Your bike can get stolen, crashed, etc. You never know what will happen.
