I want something that can run my vortec and a heater in cause the power goes out for a day.
I know very little about generators, any suggestions?
Thanks!
Honda...they make very good generator and they run quiet as well. I borrowed one from Brian (epstein) when mine wasn't working and couldn't believe how quiet it was.
Oh...and I wouldn't worry so much about the heater, circulation/water movement is more important. You could always look into one of the battery back-ups for the vortech
Also if your vehicle is in close proximity to your house (not in the garage) you can use an inverter in your car for short term powering of some equipment.
Hondas rock. But if you need a cheapo genny just to keep your tank going. Get a harbor freight portable for around $100. No you wont get years of trouble free operation from it, but it will get you through the storm.
what about those big battery backups that computers run on? would that power a return pump? thats what i was thinking about getting for such cases or even hooking up the 2 leads from a battery jumper to the plug? the last one is probably not a good idea lol.
hope you picked up a generator a few days ago. looks like they're sold out everywhere with folks in a panic over the storm. i'm kicking myself (again) for not getting one.

It's the same here in Rhode Island. I spent all day Thursday looking for a generator. Sold out. Everyone says they are on the truck, but I suspect the trucks will either be sent further south or people will have to wait in line while they are unloaded. I did manage to find a refurbished one at Building 19 but I have my doubts. It's bigger than I wanted so I will only open the box as a last resort. My family thinks I'm nuts. lol Good luck with the storm and keep those fish and coral safe!
I bought a Honda EU2000i a few years ago for tailgating and its come in handy more than once. It will run almost all the lights (fluorescent) in my house plus the refigerator. Best purchase I've ever made.
Does anybody know the safe minimum for keeping flow and lights on if power were to go out and you have battery back up? I know the powers gone out for 5 or so hours before while I was at work and everything seemed fine
Yeah no generators anywhere but I'm sure there will be quite a few returned after the storm blows by. I'm using a dry cell battery to power my vortech in the meantime. I'm not sure what to do with my frag tank though.
