WTB: American Marine Monitors(Salinity, Calcium, Temp)

FlipFlops24/7

I'd tap that glass
Just seeing if anyone had a monitor & probe for sale. I need the temp and salinity first. I probably can't afford the calcium monitor for awhile yet(and I think Jason has one he might sell :-) )

Just a thought I see that marine depot has a refractometer on sale for forty bucks.

Thanks Mako. I already have a refractometer from MD, but I like the convenience and accuracy of probes. I have a American Marine PH probe and it's very nice and a huge time saver. PH test kits aren't very accurate and are time consuming

I probably don't a salinity probe since it is so easy to use the refractometer. I definitely need a temp monitor though, and a calcium monitor would come in very handy... my calcium test kit is a PITA! :-)

I have a Calcium monitor and I am not that thrilled about it.
It takes forever to calibrate it and then you can't test water if there is current flowing past the probe, it makes the readings fluctuate. I have also gone through 2 probes in less than a year, they just don't have the bugs worked out of them yet.
Waste of $225 in my opinion

Thanks for the heads up Ron. I will refrain from purchasing one until the bugs get worked out. I use the Sailfert test kits, which are very accurate but time consuming.

I think I will just go ahead and order the temperature probe from American Marine. Right now all I have are those glass thermometers. I have 3 of them and they all tell me something different. 82, 80 and 78 LOL.

I've been working with lou at A. M. and he's given me som pointers. I just sent my probe back for a look-see. He says store them dry- and the are really not ment to be used continuously - the probe tip's lift will be shoortened to only weeks or months... mine worked great out of the box, then went steadily down hill. He helped me get it working at the 4 month point, but then never again. I had tried to run mine continuously...

I have a Salinity (conductivity unit) and a Ph Monitor up for sale.
Both work very well, and include the power adapters... I paid 114 for the Salinity and 8$ for the adapter - and 90 for the pH and 8 for the adapter... plust I'll include the boxes, instructions, all the calibration fluids I have... 220 worth of stuff for only 165$ for both.
Treated and looks like new... except for the velcro on the back.

T, a couple years ago, I invested in the super hi-precision glass therm, from TFTPP.com I think it was well worth it... I like my PP Temp... Wireless... Alot, but it's not entirely reliable either.

If your looking for precision - look for lab equiptment and medical supplies... and then go morgage your home. I've tried alot of gadgets... The ole hi-prec, is still the best for... 17.99

I have my eye on a different toy now. Still need my Calcium Monitor though.

Good question. Lou stated that though the tip is durable on this one, it membrane will eventually "wear out" from prolonged use. If only used for daily / weekly testing and kept dry, said several years.

If you find another, this would be good to know. I was very disappointed that I was not told this when I bought it. He did say that the Ph works great... continuoisly... but the tips are designed differently.
