WTB Flame Wrasse Pair

Will at Aquatic Obsessions had a pair but someone bought the male. Does anyone know anyone selling these or an LFS that has them? Thx.

Buy the female...it's cheaper and will turn male soon enough... If you really want a pair you can find a second female

I have a question about that - will a single female automatically become male or does there need to be a second female present to induce the change?

Hopefully some wrasse experts will chime in...
IME, it will turn male... BUT... my experience has always been with a tank full of mixed fairy and flasher wrasses, both M & F.

I always try to buy females, not only for better pricing, but also because they should survive longer. Quite frankly, a full grown 'supermale' flame wrasse probably won't last 2 years in your tank.

IMO ..that could be the problem which what is going on in my tank........I have one super male Ornate leopard which is keeping all my other leopards, which are large in the 4-5" range, and other wrasses from turning unless I buy them male. I even have a 5-6" female H. Richmondi that won't change.

i got a pair of females from max reef last year...the bigger female started changing to male last week - can already see the yellowing in the face and belly. woo hoo! i just hope the other female doesn't turn as well. good luck!
