mangroves
are apparently extremely efficient at taking up waste
from the water and are a great filter medium. Mangroves absorb nutrients from the water in order to grow, and help lower nitrates and phosphates in the aquarium.
but not at the rate that you think. simply compare the growth rate of macroalgae like chaeto and the growth of mangrove. In a mangrove forest where there are millions of plants i agree that they do absorb a lot of nutrients.
agreed/ slow rate, still wouldnt u wanna have a mini ecosystem in ur fuge . I know I do and the mangrove will ceratinly look great . I do spent some time looking at the fuge daily , call me crazy or just really knee deep into this hobby- i sold my boat so now the ocean is in my office LOL
I'm not certain looking at the pics, but I think you have the leaves underwater? One of the keys to mangroves living in salt/brackish water is that they excrete salt through their leaves. I'm not sure how they'll do submerged.
