WTB: Rimless Tank - Considering Any Size Glass RR - 90g or Smaller

Pretty clean tanks puffin still getting the glass from GC and assembling yourself??
I am pretty curious why you aren't making teeth ...The silicone used to build your tank is more than enough to adhere the acrylic to the glass...although the bond isn't ever going to be as strong as glass to glass it is pretty strong ( i made two within the last two months) and by using either a router or table saw one can make it look really clean..just looked at some pricing and similar sizing online is around $700 for 48x36x30 w/o options..
ntvpr..most rimless tanks are euro braced on bottom (looks like puffin does it too)
like Gomer stated the material thickness increases due to no top support so there will be minimal or no deflection from pressure..If it was acrylic (which flexes/deflects) it would have to have top perimeter bracing or even thicker material due to its tendency to bend ..You have to think that the silicone used to make glass tanks is an adhesive not a sealant..it has way more strength than your normal stuff at HD or lowes...ironically it is still pretty cheap like $10 for a caulk gun size..

I have done teeth before but its usually an option people do not want to pay money for. I have several routers one table and the other used for trimming stands. The reason why i don bond acrylic to glass is that i feel over time it will leak and with the handsome warranty that i offer i just dont feel it is acceptable.

I do use euro bracing on the bottom of my rimless but not on my full blown euro and center bracing. I think Glass Cages over build there tanks and with all the extra glass and silicone its not very appeasing. I have pretty much cut my ties with glass cages and with there terrible customer services, hateful emails, and very rude truck drivers i am done with them. I actually have a wonderful supplier here in Las Cruces that i use and can build tanks using 1/4 to 3/4 thick.

As far a silicone i use the RTV100's series. For an example the tensile strength rating is 40 and the GE I or II is not even rated! lol One of the draw backs with the RTV is that it skins faster so you better know what you are doing and have access to everything before hand. Thanks

the acrylic is just used to clean it up and really just for the teeth..I glue it to front panel of glass overflow box..If the bond leaks is it only leaking water into overflow which is the point of the box to begin with..I like to use one piece and just bend the corners and glue it ..I use rtv 100 as well great stuff and readily available yes does skin quickly ...
good luck with your building endeavor!

Your right! I though you where just using the acrylic overflow box and nothing else. But like you said you have the glass overflow box and just wrap of please the acrylic box around it. I am working on everyones quote and will be shooting PM's soon. Thanks

awesome thread it turned out to be. i will be entering another upgrade sooner then I thought

Yes so much information here. I have been talking to Puffin, and I am pretty sure I will be getting my next tank and sump from him. Just gotta sort out all the details. LOL

Will be awesome.

I am glad you guys have enjoyed this thread! I have been trying to get back to all the PM as quickly as possible. If you have any other questions please post them up or PM me. Thanks again

I can't speak for anyone else, but I've never heard of an elos seam blowing. Same with ADA garden cubes.
i really like that second picture tank...oh and can we get a full shot with the picture frame in the background too? curious :headwallblue:
