xenia function question

Can anyone direct me to where i can find info on the biological mechanism behind the pulsing action? It's really driving me nuts. Also, if anyone has any proven information regarding the reason for pulsing that would be great. I've heard the theories (light reception, gas diffusion, feeding) but i'd really like some solid fact. :twitch:

All I have ever heard or read are theories.

I don't think anyone really "knows" why they pulse yet.

This might not have anything to do with it but I had my xenia's for a long time without them pulsing at all. I raised the alkalinity and they started pulsing. This might be totally irrelevant but this was the only change I made, and they started pulsing as soon as I made the change.

It seems like SOMETIMES low PH makes them stop pulsing, or it may be a symptom of low ALK/CA as well.

Temp and Salinity fluctuations seem to have at least some effect as well.

I doubt feeding plays much of a role as Xenia have a very underdeveloped digestive system, they are almost completely Photosynthetic other than absorbing ammino acids, etc directly out of the water column.
