Hello,
so got a little frag of Xenia, placed it in my SPS tank, and now its taking over one side of my tank :S I frag as much as I can and give to friends, but now even they have too much of it :P haha

so how can I set a barrier for it ? any advice ? its growing on the base on my SPS corals and its getting me worried it would sting my SPS.,

I had that problem, too. The only ting I could do was get rid of it. That also was not easy, so I had to start a new tank. The stuff grows all too well.

I have heard some people have success by keeping it on its own island. But I wouldn't trust it because if a peice gets dislodged it can start growing on the other side of your tank. Good luck with whatever you try to get rid of it.

hahah,

well right now, I out frag plugs all around where it is growing, and as soon as a bit grows on the frag plug, I remove it, give it to ppl, but now there are no more ppl to give them to LOL

I'm not sure about their ability to sting SPS corals , anyone ?

if not that bad, then I dont mind it growing over all rocks and back glass , lol

It grew out of control in one of my reef tanks. So much so I won't add it to my current tank. Every couple weeks I was either giving away handfuls of it or throwing it away. It stinks so bad too when you take it out of the water. It never bothered my other corals I don't think it stings anything.

ok so I'm gonna let it grow, and watch for it stinging my SPS corals,

I have another FOWLR tank, with an emperor angel fish, and I guess the best food for him would be corals ! XENIA corals lol

so i will harvest the extras weekly and feed it to them, hopefully they will like it too.

thanks all

Yep, don't think they sting anything. Problem might be with it overtaking your sps corals (I'm not even sure they can do that, but I think I read somewhere that someone had that happen to them)

Also, seperating them onto it's own little island has worked for people, as mentioned above.

Just stop dosing calcium and alkalinity, it will whither away after awhile. Granted this might be tough to do in an sps tank. ;p Or raise your temp above 83 degrees, they don't like that either. Or maybe get an angel fish?

take a rock with xenia on it after you get it all out of your tank cept your fav piece. then make a rubble circle around it. walla easiest way to frag it...

yap, its being fed to my FOWLR tank currently, lol, the emperor angel is really happy, get a full meal of corals daily haha.

i think they either grow like weeds or die in tanks...mine died and i pulled them all out...or so I thought. I have two baby stalks growing again...they do stink really bad

They don't sting sps but they do grow between them and the light!
Eventually, the sps will suffer from lack of light.

Try what Strong suggested.

I have found that they dont do well in low nutrient tanks or high temps.

I use mine as an indicator of water quality.
When it starts growing, its time for a water change.
