xenia in sump for flitration?

they consume some no3 as they grow.

just having it wont decrease ure no3.

that being said, why not :) but they do get out of hand, I started with one little frag, wanted a softie in my SPS tank, lol, now my plumbing even has some xenia growing in it !

I have Xenia growing in my fuge. I just prune it from the DT and drop it in the fuge. Once it has attached to rock and I feel like it's getting too thick, I either bring it in to an LFS for credit or trade/sell it to other reefers.

I don't know whether it's doing any good in the fuge, but I figure that it's not hurting anything.

There are a few who do use xenia for nutrient export just like using macroalgae. It works, the biggest con I've seen referenced more than once is that xenia can be rather....finicky. It can be doing absolutely great and then for some unknown cause an entire colony of it can just collapse in a matter of days even when its been doing great for several years. Much more so than the popular macro algaes that are so often used.
