Xenia question

I have had my Xenia pretty much from the get go when I set my tank up 7 months ago. They have been doing great and have tripled in size.

All of a sudden they have started to pulse. I wanted to ask if anyone could give me any information on this because i'm not sure if this was a good thing or a bad thing?

Neutral. Xenia is also called "pulsing Xenia" you can take Xenia that pulses in your tank and put it in your friends and it won't pulse and vice versa. I had some pulse for a year stop then a month ago it started pulsing again. As far as I have researched it's an unknown phenomenon as to the reason. It will continue to spread and stay open, happy and feed, as long as you maintain a healthy tank. Enjoy!

Thank you Dogshowgrl, that makes me feel better. I did read up on it a little after i posted this and it also said that it may be a way for them to draw in nutrients from the water so maybe there is something that has changed to make them feel the need to do this. Im going to check all my water perimeters later today just to be sure.

Xenia pulses in low flow areas, the pulsing makes the water movement, too high of flow and Xenia will not pulse.

I'm not sure if you've already seen this or not, but here's a good article regarding Xenia. It goes into some detail about the pulsing phenomenon.

Got some from a friend, they were not pulsing in his tank started pulsing in mine. Only thing of note is a few days later he told me he was checking his water parameters and he had a low PH. I read somewhere that if your PH is low they might stop pulsing.

My xenia was pulsating from the time I got until and treated my tank with 3 days without lights. I was dealing with cyano.

When I turned the lights back on the xenia had a good PE, but it will not pulsate anymore. It has been 7 days - so we will see.

I don't know how true this is since I have xenia in a high flow area and pulsates all the time and then I have xenia in a low flow area that doesn't pulsate at all.
