xenia vs acro

sps don't sting that much unless its a hydro. The xenia would probably grow all over the acro and kill it.

My sps sting each other all the time when they touch each other. Seems like they don't do anything to the xenia though...

Yinger, I certainly hope your new tank is a sps tank. If it is you will certainly find out different.

The acro may win the initial battle vs the xenia but as the xenia shades the acro and the polyps die of the xenia will slowly multiply and spread onto it's skeleton, thus winning the war. This is the reason why most dedicated sps keepers do not have xenia in the display.

I guess I never really felt the sting of an SPS. I have been stung by some LPS and definitely felt that. I accidently touched my acan once when all the polys were out and that left a little numbness in my fingers. But definitely no Xenias in the new tank.

Smart choice. Most who handle acro's alot notice the stinging since it usually tends to take it's toll on the skin on your fingers. SPS keepers dormally have dry cracks on the finger tips. It does happen over time and lots of handling of the corals.

To be honest I use Xenia for nutrient export. It is supposed to consume alot of nitrate.

haha, hmm... I'm going to have to show my gf that. That way she keeps her hands out of the tank.

Yeh, Xenias do consume a lot of nitrates, but they get out of control easily haha. Well, at least the elongatas do. Pom Pom's a little more controllable. and I hate how they smell haha

I keep mine isolated on its own big rock in the corner on the sand...but sometimes they bud off and float around and attach to the rockwork...

Thanks guys, I was concern cause a elongata was coming near an acro. The acro gets plenty light now, but if the xenia shades it then i'm gonna be trimming and giving away.

Thanks again.

I have first-hand experience on xenia (pom pom) vs. Monti digi. Both are still alive, but only the xenia would be if I did not intervene.

The xenia would otherwise turn the digi into base rock.
