So I have recently got a rock that has some Xenia on it. I know a lot of people complain about it but I'll learn the hard way I guess.

I know the lighting requirements but where in the tank is best to put it as in a high flow area or low flow area?

THey are not as needy of light as most corals...so you can place them low if you want, they are medium flow....putting them high shouldn't hurt them. Personally I'm a proponent of seeing stuff grow on glass and overflow boxes...maybe you could place some close to a surface like that and watch your tank slowly become more natural looking?

Mine are in high light, high flow (trying to control growth), but they still grow like mad.
