Xmas/end of the year swap dates, colonies choosen, items for raffle

Hey everyone,

I spoke to the board and even though its literally around the corner. We wanted to see if individuals would be open for Dec 7th or Dec 14th? Or we can shot for the first week or second week of January.

PLEASE voice your opinion.

**** What to expect. This is the BIG BANG for the club. Members would have to have at least showed up to one meeting this previous year to participate. ****

Rather than a raffle format when getting corals we are doing a swap. So individuals would have to bring a minimum of 3 frags to enter the swap. There will be 5-6 groups categorized in colors. Once your color is called you enter the area where the frags are at and have 2 minutes to choose a frag. We will do a snake format until all corals are gone. We always encourage members to bring more frags.
The club spices up the selection of frags by buying 2-3 colonies pending price to frag. This will only incorporate more frags to the swap which generally means everyone gets more frags :) What colonies will we be getting is up to what members want.

So PLEASE voice your opinion on what type of colonies should we purchase.

SPS

LPS example acans, dendros, duncans, chalice etc...

Zoas/Palys

Next, raffle prizes. We were kind of torn with this. Either a lot of little items test kits, carbon, gfo, kalk, calc, salt, frag holder, ceramic frag holder etc... or a little of those items and a bigger prize such as a Kessil 360 or a radion? What are your thoughts? Remember more little items give individuals better odds of winning these items....

PLEASE voice your opinion.

Thanks to everyone with the group and all of the participation on the forum. Its always good to see new blood injected into the club. Look forward to everyone's opinions.

That last two swaps we have done have been after the new year. I like that because usually people schedules are not as crazy. I know mine will be better. So my vote is for a swap in January. This also gives people a little more time get frags cut and healed.

I also vote for many small items in the raffle rather then a coupe big ones. But I'm not really to worried about about what's in the raffle either way it will be a great meet.

As for corals I would like to see the club bring in SPS and zoas for the swap. If the club hasn't already purchased coral packs the is another reason I vote for January. Just is we have time to find a nice pack and get if fraged and healed.

I am up for any day other then the 7th of Dec. As for coral colonies I think a little bit of everything, and as for raffle prizes I think smaller but you could also get an ai hydra which is half the price of a radion

As long as it is not december 14th/15th or january 11th/12th my youth soccer team I cosch is going to the state championship tournament.

I vote for January also, it will give us more time to make more frags and in my case hopefully acquire a coral or two.

And as far as prizes I'll leave it to others since I have the worst luck in the world so to me it don't matter, though I would really like a radion and go out with a bang!

I also vote January but will probably take part regardless lol.. As for the colonies I say a mixture of nice sps and zoa. As for prizes u know everybody wants a top notch led but also most will be happy with any sort of win.. So I'm guessing you can't go wrong with either.. Look forward to seeing you guys and I got some decent pieces to bring hoping I can make a cali tort or 2 also =)

For colonies, I'm interested in zoas and LPS, but just because I'm wary of trying any fancy SPS. For the rest of the club though, I'm sure nice SPS would be awesome.

I'm into chalices and zoas because they're easier :P

My vote is for January because December is going to be crazy.

I like the idea of bringing in some Zoa and SPS colonies or we could always blow the whole coral fund on 1 polyp of krakatoa.

January is my preference.

And I have to see what SPS I can salvage from pieces others are holding for me (moved tank and basically lost a lot of corals).

I finally cut a few nice chunky frags to share for this next meeting. I also have the Rapid LED light fixture I won last year, that I never used. Should we use this to share with the group, or re-enter in the raffle? Ideas?

is there a date set yet for the big meet? i am talking to mike at RapidLED and he said if given the invite they would love to come join us again.

This will be my first meet, would I be excluded from the raffle as well? I would assume it's going to work like any other raffle and tickets would be sold? I'd like to contribute to the club in some fashion, even if it's just a donation and meet everyone, but my tank is really young so I don't have anything to frag yet.

I would be fine with dec 7th or january. Dec 14th is too crazy with the holiday.

For the gifts I would go smaller... the big items are neat, but it is a gamble whether the winner can use them per tank size...

Hanna colorimeters would be neat... I have one unit and it is great.
Prizes that anyone can use like gift certificates...

Just my 2 cents.

Ssteve,

I believe our standard rule is you must have come to one meet in the past year (we only have like 6 meetups a year - every 2 months).

This is to prevent people from just coming to take advantage of the choice corals all the member have contributed funds for through past raffles or coral donations to those raffles.

Last year, some "never comers" people asked to come and we explained it the same way. If they were allowed to participate then it setup the wrong incentive for our club and dilutes the value of the members who do attend more frequently.

Otherwise, our club might devolve into one where people only come for the annual swap. But we are a great community/group.

That said, feel free to come and meet everyone. But the swap is for existing members only.

Dragonvale, cbrennan4, and Aquanut (as well as old timers) can chime in if I mis-represented.

Hey Everyone,

Do we know what the frags the club will be purchasing are? Also is this meet where we will get the coral for the grow out competition? Does anyone want me to bring a nice mini colony of red hornets and yodas or do most members already have these zoanthids. I am also planning on fragging my rainbow sakura zoas for the first time would anyone like me to bring a polyp to the meet? I got them from JoFish a few months ago and they are a very nice zoa!

Some things I am looking for so if members would want to bring to the meet for the swap or just for me to purchase either would work.

ORA Hawkins Echinata (Mom wants really bad)
different types of Deep water acros
maybe a few nice zoanthids to add to my collection.
Acans! I always see them and want them just never have bought any

Hope everyone has a safe Thanksgiving!

Thanks,
KennyG

You did a good job covering it.

All of those zoas would be great to bring to the swap.

I'll be bringing some acans to the swap so you can rest assured there will be at least a few acan frags. :)
