xmas party membership?

Looking at it from a purely pragmatic point of view - for a mere $25 you bought yourself an equal chance at winning a complete kick $ss thousand dollar setup AND some awesome prizes in one fell swoop. The rest of it is gravy: you know, the whole official reef geek status with a decoder card to boot, instant recognition among your friends as an emissary of Neptune, and a monument to be erected in your name at some point after your long life of spreading the reef gospel to recognize such an achievement.

LMAO... I'm still waiting for my decoder card. But I would be happy with a monument instead!

So if we paid now we would be covered for all of next year? I've been waiting for the start of the year to finally member up.

Now your membership renews when you FIRST sign up from here on out...
So if you buy in December your membership will always be due in December.
If you buy in Feb then your membership will always be due in Feb.
So lets say your membership is due in December, but you don't pay till April... It's retroed back to December. so April WILL NOT be your new due date, So you will always have a renewal date in December if you sign up in December.
Your membership must not be past due to be able to attend frags swaps and get discounts.
Get the idea? Kinda weird I know... I didn't vote for it

Gee Steve... Can we make it sound anymore confusing?
Its quite simple... When you sign up,that is the date your membership starts on and the date it is renewed for each year. If you sign up in May then your memebership is good until the following may. The nice part is that you no longer are penalized for signing up midyear, nor do you have to wait until January. That is why myself and a vast majority of the other board members did vote for it
The only thing that is kinda weird is Steve :lol:

As for membership period, my recollection was that if let it lag you get a new membership period. Locking it in on a certain date is a disensentive to to re-join for people who let their membership lag. Also, issuing a new membership period after a lag in membership works best for the software we use to track membership. However, none of the new membership details got into the minutes so I guess we'll be taking it up again. For now, if it let it lag you will get a new membership date.

I commend the Board on tackling that sticky wicket. It has been a point of contention for many years with the club in general, and the Board specifically. We can't please everyone, but I believe that a year's membership according to the date joined is the fairest. Then again, considering all the perks, it seems to fixate on a month this way or that (@ $2.08 a month) is a bit, how do you say . . . Anyway, I was also wondering . . . Brian, concerning your avitar: those bubbles are coming out of your mouth, right? I hope that's the case ;^}

Brian, I do not believe that what you said above was what the board voted on. I'm sure the notes Kim and yourself took will reflect that what was voted on was as of January 2008, membership will be annual based upon the date (month) the new member joins (after January, because the club had already decided to allow anyone joining in the last few months a "free pass" through the end of the year).
I recall very specific conversation on the topic of the annual due date being held to, regardless of the absence or failure on the part of the member to timely pay their dues.

If you join before Jan 19, 2008 you are grandfathered into the old policy. Your membership date will be the day you join. It will expire Dec 31, 2008.
From then on, you your membership date will be the day the Secretary activates your membership and it will expire one year later.
The only thing that is in contention is what will happen to your membership date if you let your membership lag.

I undertsood it to the T of what Pete said and thats what we voted on unless I am completely off. I know it was contested a lot but the vote was for the date to hold firm even if payment came at a later time. Hence you sing up in January, you are set until next January....if you pay in Februaury your still set at the January date...It never changes unless you lapse for a year.
