y cant i skim dry

my skimmer is set at the lowest water level possible and it overflows the collection cup every six hours.

my tank is 50 gallons with a 75 gallon sump

my skimmer s the sro 1000 - is this to small for my system

i also plan on dosing vodka

the last thing incase it makes a difference my sump is filled to the top with water and live rock and the tank has only one fish

Have you added anything to the water like conditioner? How deep in the skimmer in the water?

I have that skimmer on my 55 as well. It is an excellent skimmer but needs to be in about 6 in. of water max. Also, as stated, any conditioners will make it go crazy. If I use superglue or add a new polyfilter mine also overflows.

i added no conditioner

it started going crazy when i amped up the vodka and bac 7, althou it could be a coincidence.

the skimmer is in 6.7 inches of water. so i guess maby i should lower it to around 5.5

i hope it can handle the vodka because thats my only means for nutrient removal

u dont think i shouldve gone with the sro 2000 cuz of my large sump/vodka dosing
