Im an idiot, I had a spur of the moment type of ordeal... never the less the LFS got me and I just bought it.

Now I was told it was a Squamosa Clam. The owner of the place told me it would be able to live in a low light tank. Tank is a 29g with 130watts of PC lighting - 2 65w PCs (a 50/50 and dual actinic bulbs). As you can see it is sitting on my LR as of now. Its in the middle of my tank.

Few questions:
1) Is it a Squamosa Clam?
2) Does it require more lighting? (Read on liveaquaria that it needs strong lighting)
3) Does it really require feeding or simple water changes will do and calcium dosing.

Anything else you want to tell a no0bie, please feel free. thanks

1- it looks to me as you have an odd ball:) it has a few trates of both a Squamosa and Derasa. i dont know you will ever know for sure but to me it sure looks like a hybrid. if you could get a pic of the byssal opening it could help.

2- all clams would like more lighting. if you can give it more, do so.

3- a small amount of live phyto every other day wont hurt, and water changes and Ca/Alk and Mg will need to be tested and maintained a few times a week.

I'm going to have to take it back. It was a bad impulse buy on myself! Shame on me! Maybe some day when I think I am ready I will get another one. :(

mantle color like a derasa, but shell like s squamosa. wierd. does the derasas have a very frilled siphon like that (I know the squamis do).

Well instead of bringing it to the LFS that sold it to you with PC's why not sell it to a reefer in your area with adequite conditions so it has a chance to thrive instead of being sold again to someone who may kill it. Thats JMO.

I believe they had it under MHs and told me it required less lighting. That was the reason why I got it, but then I realized that I doubt I can really support it.

Also, keeping it in my tank would have killed it before I could sell it back, plus its a hassle on my part.

I admire your honesty and being responsible. Kudos!

I was 100% that it's a Derasa.. but the shell looks different than most Derasa's..
