Man...why are spending your time with aquariums and rc helicopters or anything else for that matter? If I were you I would have ONE hobby only. ...and perma-grin

Adrian, you are in the right place for help, listen about the reading part. Take back your fish. If you are low on funds it will take sometime before you are ready to really get this going good. maybe you should consider a smaller tank to get accustomed to the hobby. Saltwater does not have the same rules as fresh. You are still young, enlist the help of adults. Get your family involved and make it a group thing. That way all of you can help maintain it. Get cycled and if you can only add a little at a time that's just fine, I had to do it. This IS NOT a cheap hobby. lots of luck

hey dwg im getting a 65gallon tank with stand,100lbs of live sand and 50lbs of live rock also the tank is drilled and set up with an internal overflow and refugium for 150 also im going to put the coral sea life 125 skimmer on it ,how long do i have to put the damsels in the 65 to cycle it again even though im getting water from my lfs?or how else should i cycle it also im going to put the live rock from my 55 in the 65 is this smart to do or should i pass up that deal and keep my 55 and buy a wetdry and set up the css 125 on it when it comes ?

Wow seems like everyone here has something negative to say. Truth of the matter Is everyone was probably at this stage in the beginning or at one time. He has "DAMSELS" ok 3 dollar fish! Not Tangs or other advanced fish that some of you have and probably keep In a tank smaller than you should or cant take care of. He had the water tested and his parm's were at safe levels so whats the problem. Tooo many fish give me a break! I say the majority people have the over the limit quanity that should be In there tank including myself. So stop telling him to start over, he can fix the problem where he is at. This forum Is for advice, help, recomandations, questions, Etc. Not bashing!

Is this a set up that you are planning on buying? Or a donation from someone?

Is this a system (the 65gal) up and running somewhere currently? Like at a friends house? If so it will have a great start for the tank to cycle.

You do not have to have fish to cycle. You can put a little fish food in the tank and let the bacteria build up and get rid of the amonia and nitrite. No need to risk the fish's life for cycleing.

The 65 sounds like a nice set up. What kind of light does it have and how many watts?

Also, it sounds like you have come a long way over the past week with this forum. Keep researching and moving slowly. There is no reason that you can not make a great reef. Just research, plan, and execute the plan while researching along the way.

Keep up the effort and it will payoff.
Don't let the nay sayers get you down.
John

You have 55G and your going to get an 65G thats only 10 more gallons than what you have. Bro dont waist your money! Im telling you, Its a big mistake. Put the money Into the 55. You will be happy you did.

It seems that maybe he just needs a "to do" list. Something that says, at time one you do this, time two you do that. Sometimes we forget the level of questions we ask because it is something we do often and it seems normal but to someone else it could be like a foreign language. I mean heck he is just a kid who was following what he thought was sound advise from Petco, a company we all know would say anything to make a buck. I wish you luck adrian because I am 29, working on a Ph.D., and still find myself confused with setting my tank up from time to time ha-ha.

I wish I could find 50 lbs of live from for under $180! I know at my LFS it is $236 for just the rock, not to include the sand. Hell if he is starting over then that is a great price for sand and live rock, not to mention the aquarium that is set-up and ready. He could sell his empty 55 gallon and put THAT money on new lighting or better yet powerheads that he will need!

hey palm beach i think its worth it im getting 100lbs of live sand and 50 lbs of live rock a wet dry(the tank has internal over flow)and a refugium with a return pump it also has power compact lights i think he said 20000watts on the phone i meen thats well over 400 buks also the sand is filled with life and he said the rock has some small frags on it i i think hes going to help me set it back up and also he is going to explain a few things to me about keeping a saltwater tank i think thats better than buying a wet dry for maybe 100bucks if im lucky and live rock for about 100 bucks
