Yellow and Blue tang

Hi i have a 75 gallon non drilled tank at the moment with a 3 year old blue tang in it, in a week i am switching over to another 75 gallon drilled tank. when i switch to my new tank i have a 3 year old yellow tang, i see some tanks that have both tangs in their tank but i just wanted to hear from others on reef central if i would be able to do that

Assuming the "blue" tang is a hippo tang it should be alright. Just know that at full size it needs at least a 6ft. long tank. I have had 4 tangs in my 90g for several months now with no aggression issues whatsoever.

ok will do, dose it matter which one i should put in first, and im guessing to have the lights off as well

Probably best to put them both in at the same time, and yeah it would be good to keep the lights off.

You are asking for trouble with putting two tangs in 75 gallon. Hippo tangs tend to get massive and very aggressive. That fish alone needs a tank 4x the size of yours (or larger).

I would get much more feedback before I put those two tangs together in that small of a tank.

Hippo tangs don't need a 300g min. tank. Having a tank at least 6ft. long is more important. At 4in. it will be fine in a 75g for a little while, and won't be agressive towards a yellow tang.

You can have two tangs in a 75 gallon, as long as their max size is at most 8". I hope you realize those hippo tangs get to be over a foot long. And don't say you'll give him away when he gets too big, the best thing you can do is buy fish that can live their entire lives happily in your tank. And don't say down the road you'll get a bigger tank. Right now you just need to focus on stocking your current tank and not the tank you'll have in the future! because right now, you don't have that tank.

Don't listen to some of these guys that are telling you it will work (no offense) but it will save you a BIG headache in the future, trust me I've been there and done that..and regret every bit of it! Don't make me call the tang police on you! but seriously, it won't work.

I would just take it to your LFS and do a trade for anouther fish or find someone that can take it.

"Several months" means nothing regarding stocking, and a person with 4 tangs in a 90 not a person I would consider impartial.

I stand by what I said earlier. I think it's poor practice to get fish that are not suited long-term for the tank the hobbiest has at that time.

Paracanthus tangs can attain a length of more than 12". They also reach sexual maturity within their first year. With sexual maturity comes aggression. With these tangs the aggression can be pretty severe.

Now, that's not necessarilly true.....most tangs that don't grow in excess of 8-9" can do fine in a 4ft tank (not counting powder browns and blue)
