Sorry to bump up such an old thread but is there any consensus on the coloration of the ORA assessors? I'm hoping to get one but every one that I've seen has been mustard yellow.
I'm hoping they either change to the mustard color when stressed, or that they get a more intense/bright yellow color as they get older. Any word from anyone that has had one grow to adulthood?
I had a group of 5 for years. They were very cryptic. For a long time I thought that they had all died but then spotted them before the light would come on. Once the lights were in full blaze they would retreat someone into the Rock structure. I may still have some, have not seen them in several months though. Btw. They all looked identical to the pic in your post.
I have 2 ORA. One colored up in a month or so and the larger is still pretty dull. I had 2 wild caught ones before and they always had great color. ive never seen the Blue available from ORA but the randals Ive seen were pretty dull colored.
I bought my wild caught Yellow Assessor from LA and it's bright yellow. It's color has not changed, and it one of my favorite fish.
I have also read the the ORA Assessor are less likely to swim upside down like the wild caught ones. Mine hangs out in an overhang area and is upside almost the entire time....even when it cams out to eat.
At first I was considering canceling my previous order and rather get these but due to the lower price (ORA Yellow Assessors go for $60 ea. on LA) I had a closer look. As it seems, at least one of those has a short lower jaw
