yellow candy hog fish -- warning

Hi,
A friend warned me that this fish would eat other fish even fish size of adult neon gobies or larger. Mine already ate a 1/2" little red 'neon' goby when I first put the goby in the tank. He was nice to the other neon gobies (1") . But I haven't been feeding the tank but once a day very light, sometimes once every two days (over the course of a week) to try to win against an algae bloom.

The hog fish became like a shark. He was hunting the neon gobies, chasing them even into their hiding spots, in pursuit. I know he would have grabbed one and killed/at it if he caught one. Soon after he started doing this I fed the tank, and he was going bonkers for food. He went so nuts he jumped out. I couldn't find him he flopped around so fast I guess. He's gone now, wish he didn't go that way, I'd rather have netted him out and gave him away.

But beware, these hogfish are sharks. I doubt it was just mine, as my friend told me at the start I made a mistake.

There are many stories similar to yours. They are not reef tank fish and are best left to FOWLR predator tanks
