Yellow eye kile tang NOT EATING!

Got my kole tang about 3 days ago and he has yet to eat any pellets. I feed all my fish new life spectrum marine formula and they all love it! EVEN MY MANDARIN GOBY! The reason I'm concerned is i really haven't seen him graze on the algae in my tank. He seems healthy, always swimming around but I still haven't really seem him eat.

I'm going to petco today to get done of the algae/seaweed strips to see if he eats that.

Get the some Nori and rubberband it to a piece of rock. How long has he been in the tank and did you quarantine him? Tangs need to be quarantine and once they get through the quarantine, most of them are quite hardy.

I am unable to quarantine him. However I did drip acclimate him. None of the fish have touched the seaweed.

How's your Kole Tang? I have one and love him. Mine took about a week before he started eating good. I let the algae build up on my glass and he picked on it a lot for a few weeks until he realized he liked the frozen mix I was feeding the others. Mine doesn't really go for the sea weed variety....I mix frozen plant based with Rods food and he loves it, but it took him a few weeks before he tried it.

Kole, and chevron, tangs can be picky eaters. They're more slime algae and detritivores than classic grazers. Most of my tangs took to nori after a week or two but my Chevie took months. Not unusual for a new fish to not eat for a week or two even. It's important with these tangs to have plenty offline rock for them to scrape at.

I too am a strong proponent of QT, saves a lot of $ in the long run.

A nice trick for the Kole Tangs is to leave one glass panel full of algae (don't clean it) so he can graze. They will graze anyway but one day I just left a section of back glass alone and let the algae build up. Also helped some of my snails out.
