Yellow Horned Tang

heart shape parrots are not cut up... those are fry that come out deformed that haven't been culled out... see what happens... ask a flowerhorn breeder... it happens a lot... just that commercial breeders don't care if it's deformed because to them it's just a buck swimming with it's dorsal and pectoral fin... that also happens because of the inbreeding... goldfish are all deformed spawns of carp... they just keep coming out with these messed up fish that to some look awesome and they just have to have... like... hold on let me get a pic...

this...

that goldfish was born with four bubbles instead of two like the common bubble eye goldies... that one sold for four thousand dollars... i remember all the goldfish forums were nuts over these guys... and they keep making people money...

anyways... the only bad thing that LFS do carry that is horrible for the fish are painted freshwater fish... they put them in three different chemicals, and it makes their survival rate drop by 90%... another thing is balloon fish... like balloon rams, mollies and such... those are exposed to some kind of metalic chemical that causes them to deform themselves as fry... sucks...

I've seen links on how they're cut up.. Correct me if i'm wrong but if they are deformities, why would there be tanks loaded with them at the LFS? I don't mean a tank with one tailless and 50 others with tails but 50 without tails, and priced higher than the normal ones

what can i say... people are idiots... sounds like they are breeding those tail less morphs... that's messed up...

Ever seen the fish with tattoos?

that's what i was talking about... they put them in some sort of acid to burn off the slime coat, into another acid to make the scales see thru, then paint them... throw them in ro/di and then back in freshwater... it sucks... the worst i've seen were cichlids... i would never do that to an mbuna or oscar... those guys have tons of personality...

What you bought there is mutilated yellow tang, Zebrasoma flavescens, that someone has deliberately cut up its dorsal fin, in order to get that 'horned' appearance, and presumably a higher price tag.

I would really suggest going back to where you got it from, and confront them about it. It's a little appalling that they would be selling it as such, they really should know there's no such thing as a yellow horned tang. On the off chance they don't happen to know, have them contact their distributors. That's atrocious.

BTW, I would also post this in the Reef Fishes section, so more people see this.

I'm glad you posted this. I actually can see the cut now. That's just plain cruel!!!!

I wish they were but they're cut.

Googled it and found multiple sites telling of how they're cut deep enough so they never grow back

SHNAPS!!!... i guess they cut them when they are so small so they have to adapt... that sucks... everyday i'm losing more faith in humanity... i'm sorry to say this, but asian countries (including the not so popular ones like india) do some stupid stuff to animals... like those cats in jars, bottles and vase... that's probably the worst... but over there, anything flies for a buck... as soon as i become president of the united states, i will do all in my power to stop this...

Yeah really messed up.. Its like a larger creature cutting off a human's arms because they think it looks better... So back to the original topic.. sorry OP..
You guys think they're starting to do the same to salt water fish now? Or is that one just a deformity?

Could it just be fin-rot that has healed?

this is the most likely scenario if it isn't a deformed fish... like some LFS will put a yellow tang and a purple tang in the same tank... or some other aggressive fish, and end up with a yellow tang with hardly any fins at all... the fins on the side grow back faster than the pectoral/anal fins, so sometimes that happens...

Those Parrotfish are not naturally deformed. They cut them up. I used to have freshwater fish and I hated those weird people.
