Yellow/Sailfin tangs together?

O.K. here goes......I just added a red sea sailfin tang to a very well established 125gal reef which has been inhabited by a yellow tang for the last year or so.My yellow tang is PI$$ED!!!The only reason I decided to add the sailfin is because since I've had my yellow tand,I've added a blue hipppo tang and a Kole tang and all have live peacefully.Maybe the sailfin looks too much like the yellow tang?I've seen tanks with schools of yellow tangs with no problems. Will my yellow tang stress my sailfin to the point of death? There's about 200lbs of live rock with plenty of hiding spaces, and all my tangs are really small in size..less than 3".Will they live peacefully?
Thanx all

There are the same speicies of tang ( hence the aggression ) and once a yellow is established it can become very aggresive to any newcomers. I would watch your situation closely might have to remove the yellow tang for a while until the salfin gets used to its surroundings then it will be able to hold its own.

On another note you might want to think on upgrading 4 tangs in a 125 is a bit much espically the hippo and salfin will need a bigger home soon.

I don't buy in to the "looks alike" theory. IME tangs are agressive when not given enough room, hiding places, quality water and food. People overlook food, but they need to be fed enough to grow 1-2" in a year - which is hard to do in a reef tank.

Your yellow could stress your salfin to death. Don't let that happen. Once they get stressed, they are usually pretty easy to catch.

yellow and sailfin are the same genus, not species.

That being said, theres more competition between fishes of the same genus. Its too be expected.

Good luck

Thanx for the insight all!!!I guess I should have researched it a little better.Fortunatly the sailfin is hiding, but also eating and the yellow seems to be backing off a little.
