Yellow tang forming ich help !'

I got this small yellow tang about a week ago from the lfs it looked healthy before I got him but he's been eating like a pig swimming around and I just noticed he's forming ich on him and idk why!! I have a 30gal tank (small for tangs I know) Water is perfect I tested everything I have a reef octopus bh2000 skimmer running could it be the size of the tank? I also have 2 clowns in there as well seem to get along fine just greedy between them all when I feed. What's the safest best way to treat ? Or should i let it sit see if he gets better ?

You should quarantine all fish for 9 weeks before adding them to your main tank, especially tangs which commonly carry ich. Certainly the undersized tank further aggravates ich by stressing the tang, but it was already infected when you brought it home. Ich can take a few weeks to manifest itself visually. You are going to need to remove ALL the fish from your display now and treat them all for ich in a separate tank (you cannot treat fish in your display tank). Do a search for ich treatment of look in the disease forum for detailed treatment information.

He's not going to 'get better'. Start reading all the posts on ich. Go to the fish disease forum here and start reading on how to rid you tank and fish of ich, and follow the instructions to the T. If you don't you are headed for disaster. Read, read and read some more.

I have use NO-ICH™ Marine in my Quarantine tank as a preventive measure before introducing Tangs in my 150 gal DT.
The label says it's safe for invertebrates and can be used in a DT as preventative maintenance but I have had no desire to test that statement.
Still, it might be worth a try.

THese meds can be put out there with claims no one but the buyer tests, because they're not under any regulation: it's a lawless market. If anything ever worked, we'd be all over it.

QT is your real protection, coupled with good water-keeping. Water that's 'off' usually favors the pests, not the fish.

Any corals in this tank? If not you could run hypo for 12 weeks.

Your only way to cure this is to: Read the stickies on ich (crypto) by Snorvich at the top of the disease forum. Then set up a QT and treat all of your fish with copper, tank transfer, or CP. Do a lot of reading and when you "know" something, like putting a YT in a 30 gal tank is wrong, don't do it. (This is a huge mistake, btw. A YT in a 30 will go postal eventually, its just plain inhumane). Down the road, when your DT is ich free, use the QT with all new fish and enjoy the hobby.
