OK im not new but thought this would be the baset are to post this question.

We have a 29 gallon tank that currently has only a lion fish in it. ( anttenata)

How long could i have a yellow tang in the tank with it ?? This is not long trerm. Its a freind that broke his tank down.

Were going to have a 125 up and running by summer. So i guess the tang would have to reside with the lion for about 3-4 months...

Yes i know the tang police have been alerted !

It will do fine until it gets hit by the lionfish.

Do you have the 125 already or is it one of those we plan to but have not?

Sounds like that tank would be very crowded with a tang and lion, even if it is only temporary. As KafudaFish said, I'd be very worried of the tang getting stung by the lion in such a small space.

Also, no idea what the size of those fish are. Is the lion big enough and tang small enough that the lion could eat the tang?

I don't see how you can ask this question and then joke about the tang police. Does not make any sense. You already know the answer to your question but you are going to do what you want. Why ask?

there is a great post on here u should read. tangs should never be kept in less that 75 gals. a future tank may never happen its life things change. 29 is going to be not enough even in a short term.

heres one of a question in there:
Q.: I want to get a juvenile for my small tank and I'm upgrading later. Should I?
A.: No. Stock for the tank you have, not the tank you may someday probably possibly maybe have. Life can be unexpected, and we are talking about fish with life spans over 10 years.

+1 Finally, someone who can point out the obvious without being P.C.
.........and why worry about the tang police? A 29 is too small for just the lion.

you'll also need to worry about the lion getting spooked in a dark tank and stinging the tang....technically, yes, you can keep in 29g for awhile....but....

Good lord some people are moody. Yes i have the 125 Complete setup. Just have to wait for a skimmer and time. ( My place of work burnt up im a carpenter.)

I just wanted to see what people thought. I guess everyone thinks that people wont follow through with what they plan.

Btw the tang has been in a 29 for its whole life. I know thats not right. so dont jump down my throat. I just thought it would be better to house it in a 29 rather than having it turn into a fishsicle

And did i ever say i was going to house the lion in the 29 for its life.??? Dont be a smart *** if you have no clue to the rest of the story.

Hes right, I think everybody kinda jumped on this guy pretty fast. I would consider trading it in and getting another one when the 125g is up and established.

No one jumped on him, just stating the obvious. I could personally care less if he wants to keep a yellow tang and a lion fish in a 29g tank. Honestly, I could care less if he wants to keep them both in a 1g tank or wants to drop them in the garbage disposal. Nothing I can do about that.

You wanted peoples' opinions. You're getting them. That was my opinion and was not insulting, just blunt.

or take them to your LFS tell them your story, maybe they will hold them or someone in a reef club near you

No LFS around here that will do any trades or anything. And anyone with a reef knows unless you wnat the fish for life you dont add them to your tank. ( Sump being an exeption.)

And yea i asked for opinion's And on This site I guess we should just take forgranted that people will jump to conclusions fast. Without knowing all thats involved.

Insted of a simple It would work for a while" or "No i would advise against it". People tend to over think it. What would the fish do at the LFS waiting for 2-4 months to get bought and taken home ??? I guess i anwserd my own Question.

I do think some posters post's are kinda funny tho.:)

Who jumped to conclusions? You said you are going to keep it with a lion fish for a few months in a 29g tank. Your friend broke down his tank and it needs a home. That's all the information we have and all the information we need.

I do think some posters post's are kinda funny tho.:)

And some people find putting fish in a blender funny. Different strokes for different folks. :spin1:

As Sergeant Hulka says... Lighten up Francis.

I agree with the posters above. The 29 is too small for the lion, and way too small for the tang and lion together. Try selling the fish and get a new one once you actually have the 125 set up.

Petco has 3 yellow tangs in a 10 gallon tanklmao." That's where the manager told me to put them"

best of luck to you
