Yellow tang in my tank?

So right now I have a 30 gallon reef tank with only one firefish. In October I'm getting a new 80 gallon reef tank. I am really eager to add a yellow tang so could I put a small yellow in there now and move it into my 80 gal later?

If your upgrading soon then sure. I quarantine larger tangs than that in 30 gallon and 55 gallon aquarium.

Personally, I'd wait until you have the larger tank set up. October is a ways off and often times planned upgrades just never materialize for a number of reasons. Be patient and make sure you bring the tang home to a well established permanent home.

Even an 80 gallon aquarium is going to be on the small size for a yellow tang. Even with that said, one should never buy a fish that can't live out it's entirety in the tank you have now.

+1 tangs should have a minimum of a 6ft tank with plenty of swimming room and 120g of water
