Yellow tang Quarantine tank questions:

Ok my 125 Reef tank has been up a little over a year now.

It's ready for a tang.

I am picking one up today from my fish guy.

I 29 gallon Bio Cube that I use for my quarantine tank it has been up and running for over a year also, and I have another small tank set up and running to medicate in if the need arise.


Here are where the questions begin.

Will the 29 be ok for Yellow tang Quarantine purposes only? It is all I have and with the size of my apparent and all the other tanks I have, it is as big as I can fit.

The Bio Cube has no Fish, Coral or Inverts, but it does have live rock in it. about 25lbs. Should I remove this for more swimming room for the tang?

Lastly, what would most people agree the appropriate amount of time I should QT this specific tang?

The Biocube should be fine to QT the tang. I would say the live rock is good at first, however if you're going to be medicating with Cupramine, etc, it is best to pull out all live rock and sand as it will absorb the medication and make it difficult to keep a consistent concentration.

Just keep an eye on water quality. Pick up one of those little "suction on" ammonia readers.

Oh, and as for the amount of time, it depends if/what you plan to medicate and how the fish is eating. I'd recommend a minimum of 1 month.
